My first marriage was shorter than this thread and only marginally more painful. :D

Seems to me that both clubs are seeing who's got the bigger Dick the problem is there is only 1 Dick and he used to play forward for the Crows

Hey Iva Bigun. You're awesome. I like that $kirt treatment of our teams has brought a camaraderie between our supporters! You're welcome anytime, and the amount of time you've spent on this thread - perhaps on your profile you should add Adelaide Crows to your 'Other Teams!';)

If there is an agreement that is on paper outside of an AFL endorsed contract, that would certainly breech AFL rules and would certainly draw some sort of penalty. And would lead to sackings I imagine.

There is draft tampering for one, The Crows not being able to send Tippett to the draft if a suitable trade is not negotiated. Would that land in Tippett's lap or AFC.

Entering into a contract not endorsed by the AFL would surely have both parties in trouble.

Perhaps this delay is a giant stare down between AFC and Bulcher to see who will flinch first.

There is some sort of agreement here IMO. Rowey, Harpers statements and Nobles avoidance Of the subject support this view.
It's in writing but not the main standard AFL contract. It states the crows will trade Tippett back "home" if he chooses. Crows are arguing home is QLD, Bulcher as per statement when $Kurt chose swans is that Sydney is home(town/birthplace).

Perhaps it's a legal definition issue?
If only we had a lawyer at the table!

No deal by 12pm Thursday and there will be no deal done at all. A third team will be involved the great mystery is which one.

It's a reasonable analysis of one side of the argument. But as a journalist shouldn't he be getting an AFC perspective of their list management. He doesn't dig deep enough into Noble's comments on Friday about Adelaide only needing one pick. The first paragraph is a fluff piece. No one will object but he is relying on people to do little or no analysis of AFC's actual needs in the coming draft.

Also, his statement about Adelaide persuing White is misleading in the context of a trade.

I guess its in the reading. I took it simply to be a response to all the punters out there screaming for the draft ie. before you jump down the afc's throat this is what confronts.

AndrewJo - yes saw the list and I agree with. I was not putting forward a view on the merits of the options, just a comment on the article.

I think Im on record over a number of posts that we should be giving a time limit and then closing talks with Sydney if no suitable trade. Then advising Kurt....sorry mate we tried, could not get it done, how about we talk to someone else to get a new home for you.

I think a lot of people are forgetting we have already secured a top 5 pick from this draft.

At the expense of Gunston and #10, wasn't it?

We did well there, but it has nothing to do with this case.

Realistically, losing Kurt should net us Toumpas; it's complete bullshit that this will not be the case.

So you are saying we can't improve if we don't add Tippett to our list? Sorry but as much as you wish we needed Tippett, it's just not true.

I'm not sure why you're insisting on being difficult about this.

No, I'm not saying Tippett is your only avenue to improvement. However, it's a pretty big one. Trade period is almost over. It's unlikely you'll get much in the draft that will contribute towards your 2013 premiership campaign, certainly nothing more useful to your side than Kurt Tippett.

Like it or not, your club stands to gain a hell of a lot by securing Tippett's signature.

Eh seems it's an argument of semantic

You need him..
No we want him...

rince repeat. He'd be very good for our structure letting Reid take second defender and Goodes to roam

Davi$ compo pick & #10 - for Crouch & Brown.

I'm pretty sure that Gunston didnt have anything to do with the mini-pick trade. From memory wasn't it Pick 10 and the Phil Davis compensation pick for mini pick 2 and Luke Brown ?

No problem. Find a top 5 player from Sydney that doesn't want to be at the club, who is out of contract, and has told his manager he only wants to play for Adelaide.

This is what happens with most trades, numb nuts.

Give you pick #58 for Kieren Jack, you could get a Dane Swan! Better than nothing, champ.

We can still Bag a Tippett!

Kurt Tippett's brother Joel to stay in SA

"He's going to be a pretty strong chance to get drafted, we believe," Mickan said.
"But failing that we're expecting him to be here next year (because) he's got another year of his contract to run.
"The conversations we've had with him are along those lines.

"We've got no reason to think he's going anywhere else if he's not drafted."

Wouldn't hold your breath on that outcome.

If we assume that Tippett's salary demands match Sydney's offer, then the most he can specify for 2013 is that $650-750k that Sydney can afford. I think it is quite reasonable to assume that there are several clubs - most notably GWS and Carlton, who are capable of matching these terms, should Tippett end up in the ND or PSD.

If worst comes to worst - and he demands out after 12 months at his new club - then they are in the position of trading a player who is almost literally worth his weight in gold, who still has 3 years remaining on his contract. The only catch is that the contract would be for an average of $1.1M per year, so the number of buyers might be a bit on the low side.
The first year isn't the problem, it's whether clubs are willing to take the risk on giving Tippett a 4 year multi-million back ended deal, because that is what they are effectively committing to. IMO no club would take a multi-million risk on a player in the hope, if things don't work out, that they can trade him after 1 year.

The salary cap space isn't of course the only consideration. Even if a club had the space, they are effectively ruling themselves out of top end free agency/player acquisitions for the next 4 years. Are there going to be better options to spend their money on in the next few years?
And is Tippett worth the performance/injury risk? The Swans clearly believe so, do other clubs?

Lastly I find it hard to believe that Sydney would offer Tippett such a large long term contract without the very real expectation that they would acquire his services. Now clearly the Sydney offer is low ball.
To my mind that means one of 2 things;
a) there is a get out clause and Sydney are aware of it OR
b) if Adelaide reject the Sydney offer then the Swans are confident of picking Tippett up in the draft (ND or PSD).

For the latter to be the case it can only be based on the belief of Blucher & Sydney that there are no other suitors who have both the interest and salary cap space to trump Sydney.

Time will tell.

Done, just for you and others like Kristof, Crow Eater, Danoz, oh the whole damn lot of ya.

Only until next season though :D

To think I sat in a bar drinking Bintang shouting loudly for the Swans - god now I feel all dirty...

The arrogance that sems to be emanating from their Admin and posters has helped their popularity in my team list slide bigtime.

On a positive note the tickets for the next home game versus Sydney are going to be super hot items, when does the program for 2013 get released, I want in!

If Skirt makes it to Sydney next year (one way or another) the AFL would be insane to not schedule an Adelaide v Swans game at AAMI.
