Time to ban live export once and for all

We had a similar thing in the mining industry. ASIC are still considering whether charges will be laid, but fingers crossed they hold activist to the same account as ordinary white collar criminals.
To the mining industry this will be no more than a troublesome tick.
For agriculture, this is massive.

broome tried hiring aborigines but they simply didn't want to work.

refusal of almost any work should be automatic loss of benefits, however refusing to work in a slughter house has to be a clear exception to the rule. Working in one must be choice, as killing animals all day must play on the soul.

I worked in a slaughter house for 3 yrs as a teenager, cutting the throat of an animal never bothered me, low wages did.

Surely it wouldn't be too hard to get an impartial group (vets) to travel and monitor the sheep and decide on recommendations to improve their lot, that are satisfactory to all but the vegans.
And give them some stun guns and training
88% of animals in the UK killed by halal methods were stunned beforehand in a way that many Muslims find religiously acceptable.

Vets travel with EVERY boat.
Stockmen get paid on successful delivery numbers.
40% of the live export industry budget is dedicated to training for humane slaughter puposes.

When was this?
Broome was closed in the 80's and every blackfella that I knew was devastated at the closing. Same with Darwin, Katherine etc.

Yep

Probably worded my post wrong. It’s a job needed doing but it’s a job for some but not all.

You’re right re the wages. They should be much higher given the difficulty of the job.

Cultural imperialism. If the Mohammedins want to butcher live animals then who are you to tell them their culture is crap?
Because their culture is. Crap in lots of ways and it is totally our perogative to choose what we want to sell and how to sell it.

So you're talking about Yeeda?
I'm still calling bullshit. KMC is still operating well with a majority of indigenous staff.

I thought you said nothing was happening up there since the 80s?

If the slaughter wages are low why does it cost 25 a kilo for a piece of porterhouse steak? 1 mere cow must make the farmer or the supermarket like 10k

It certainly isn't the farmer, although I'll admit that prices are significantly better than a few years ago.
Although that price average is slipping rapidly of late due to the drought.
A good domestic trade steer/heifer weighs around 340kg on average and we are getting around $2.70 per kilo liveweight. This time last year it was 70-80 cents more.
That animal will yield, (hide, head and guts out) about 58% on average, so just under 200kg of meat and bone.
Less than 10% of that is prime cuts, like Rib Fillet etc.
As usual, it is the middle men and end retailers making the real money.

Even the ABC is covering 'stitch up' involving 4 Corners:
Government calls for investigation into suspected payment for LiveEx footage of dead and dying sheep

IMHO they must think there is something to it or they'd normally just ignore it.

Love how the 'charity' Animals Australia have a massive sook about "victimisation off the whistleblower, but neglect to address the tens of thousands of dollars they paid him.
They are just a front for animal rights extremists whose ultimate aim, (amongst other lunacy), is the complete banning of all livestock based agriculture throughout Australia.

Did they nominate a spokesperson, Judas?

Interesting that the NFF release the anti "animal rights" propoganda as a deflection from greedy farmers ****ing up the environment and killing animals.

One event is real the others is just a couple of angry animal hugging hippys dreaming out aloud on FB

Animals Australia are hopefully about to get reamed by the ACNC.

In an extraordinary departure from the silence that usually shrouds the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission’s investigations into potential charity wrongdoings, commissioner Gary Johns has confirmed that the animal rights group’s activities are being reviewed.

In a letter, obtained by The West Australian, Dr Johns said that complaints about payments allegedly made by Animals Australia’s operatives in exchange for footage of animal cruelty on live export ships were being taken seriously.

“While I cannot discuss the ACNC’s involvement in the matter you have raised, I can confirm that the ACNC is aware of the serious issues and allegations raised in the media recently regarding the charity’s representations offering financial compensation to individuals able to provide footage of animal cruelty in the live export trade,” Dr Johns wrote.

“The ACNC are reviewing these allegations as a priority.”

Attack the messenger while ignoring the message. Does the circumstances that the footage was obtained change what happened?
Absolutely it does.
If you know anything about live export ships it only takes one prick to turn off ventilation fans for 5 minutes and you have a deck full of panting, hot sheep. Makes for great viewing to the gullible.

Let me state, I'm in no way condoning what was seen on the 60 Minutes story, and Emmanuel's should never have got their license back. But this whole thing has been blown way out of proportion and Animals Australia has been the key instigator in this. For them, as a licensed charity, to have been paying thousands and thousands of dollars for footage, leaves the footage and AA open to skepticism.

Here's the real message Gough. Mortality rates for sheep, cattle, goats etc on live export ships is LESS than mortality rates in farm paddocks. Fact.

You obviously never do any shopping for yourself if you think good steak is $25 a kilo, add at least $7 to that. You can see t-bone for that sort of price if it's on special.
