This is second hand from a club official. So cant vouch for 100% accuracy.
If true Hardwick certainly making a stamp.

Apparently it is the norm for players to stay overnight after a game in the West, whilst the staff, trainers etc catch the red eye home.

On fri, the players (bar Cuz it would seem due to his function) were sent home on the red eye and the staff got to stay overnight.

Hardwick then met the players at the airport at 4am. Had words with them, sent them home for a few hours kip and demanded them back at the club at midday for meeting and forward planning etc. From there he cancelled Mad Monday. this wasnt popular and there was a compromise for quiet beers at the social club behind closed doors.

Obviously means business.

PHX EDIT: Take as possible rumour but maybe not gospel. http://oneeyed-richmond.com/forum//index.php?topic=10035.msg158036#msg158036
Still, don't target Merv for telling us what he was told folks.

If true, I can understand wanting to get in and start early but Mad Monday has become a norm among the playing group at football clubs.

It's just one of those funny social outings everyone looks forward to after a hard and gruelling campaign.

screw em, they havent deserved any of it, good on Hardwick:thumbsu:

Well I am not against this stand if true, but you must fear the players will want to let there hair down at some stage in the off-season. Lets hope they don't **** up.

They need the discipline, they have been babied my Wallace co for way to long, i wanna see them bust there guts!:thumbsu::)

Nothing wrong with making a fairly strong statement from day 1. Let them know what they are in for and then let them go out and enjoy Wacky Wednesday, or Thumping Thursday.

I've been saying it all the time ... Hardwick is the most ambitious and driven assistant coach out there waiting to take over the reins. More so than Buckley. More so than anyone.

IF you wanted a revolution you will damn well get it and then some with him.

Congrats on the pickup. Had the pricks at Hawthorn not suspended his files he would've won his final presentation hurdle vs. Knights. I'm 90% sure that if anyone was going to succeed Wallace this year, it would've been Knights.

Not that I regret having Knights of course, just telling it how it is...

Takes me back to he infamous story (if true) of the last game of the season before Cambo wanted to be traded, because being thrashed the players at half time were joking and having a laugh about the mad Monday piss up to come. Apparently he was livid and didn’t want anything to do with the group again.

Good. I you're on the money, Merv. :thumbsu:

Hardwick would have been disgraced with what he saw on Friday night and there is no reason to let them think they can then go away for the off-season without consequence and discussion of the gutless performance.

Nothing wrong with delaying end of year drinks and socialising for a day either, which I'm sure they eventually did in their own time.

grueling campaign? our boys hardly broke a sweat for the last month of the season. deserve everything they get from hardwick.

Oh I hope this story is true... A lot blokes on the list getting paid a hell of a lot more than most of us on this board, and for what?

I can run out onto a footy field and not chase, not lead, not go in hard, not tackle etc etc for $250K a year!!! :D

It's time some of these "boys" earn their coin!

They dont need beers . They needa be lifting weights and running 15 more km's than what they are use to

i hope its not true, i can imagine it having a negative affect.

im all for the hard nosed approach and i think its needed, but i dont think its the way to go and i dont believe this to be true sorry merv

he couldnt be too hard on them.

i was out in st kilda last night and watched jack reiwoldt and shane tuck outside The Saint, drunk, smoking cigarettes.

also seen a large group of Tigers at another St Kilda spot last night too.

as i left the bar i walked past jack getting into one of 3 cabs filled with richmond players and him yelling "TELL THE CAB WE ARE GOING TO THE CASINOOOO!"

Carn Tiges

Saw Trent Cotchin, Shane Tuck, Adam Pattison, Shane Edwards, Mitch Morton and Kelvin Moore out at crown on sunday night, while i was on my own mad sunday/monday/tuesday/wednesday - waiting for a cab at the rank outside the crown complex they were standing there having a chat and contemplating where to go next!! Hope they didn't go to hard, Hardwick might cut sick!
Trent was still on crutches though and didn't seem to be drinking, hopefully the lad gets a fair go next year!

yer, gosh, that might risk a player rebellion - and some players might want to leave and that would be a disaster... oh, wait...

(you know what I mean, dont you: if anyone wants to whinge then they can go: its not like anyone on the RFC list is not expendable. Let someone complain! Go on! and then they can be the example that hopefully shows the squad that (for the first time since 1995) the players arent bigger than the club anymore.
