Could go in the things that shit me thread too. Been a roller-coaster last few hours.

My car was stolen out the front of our house overnight. Filed a report straight away, etc, etc.

Got the call just then that it had been found, without a scratch, key inside the car. Man I'm so happy, and thankful for the police force. They ain't perfect and get a lot of shit wrong, and I've had poor experiences with them in the past. But they've done a great job here in less than three hours since it was filed. I had essentially written the car off in my head.

You left the key in it? I think being able to quickly scan number plates and GPS tracking helps a lot in finding vehicles unless steps had been taken to make them "disappear", eg burning, or changing plates, or going interstate. Technology is a great advance in crime investigation.

A friend's car was taken from a Gold Coast shopping centre car park and found intact in Brisbane.

When we lived in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne one of our cars was taken from our driveway. After a week it was found near La Trobe University, reported by a resident as being dumped. Again, intact.

Both the above had been hotwired though.

Pleased you got yours back, now secure it.

Where the next hiking adventure?

Hard to get away at the moment, but I've been bikepacking a few times per year over the rail trails throughout Victoria.

May just end up flash-packing the next one and doing the Bairnsdale-Orbost trail again and staying in the bottom pub at Orbost (last time I was there I had an oyster beer - seriously)

There's plenty of options .
Even here in Vic.

I think I'll do a few surf coast walks .
And few in Lorne.

We think that the key to my car was left in my Dad's car. Long story how it ended up there, but it wasn't my fault hahaha. A couple of nights ago, heaps of cars in our street were broken into, including my Dad's. We didn't think anything of value was taken, but it seems likely that in fact, the spare key to my car was in the console. Seems like they came back last night.

Seemed like a complete amateur operation. Found on a street in Werribee (we live inner west). My guess is that the car was low on fuel and that taking it to a petrol station would make them a bit more identifiable, and that it was easier to leave the car. Nothing special, just a 2012 Nissian Maxima (I do love this car though). To be fair, most proponents of grand theft auto aren't banging the door of MENSA down.

You're right, technology is fantastic now in crime investigation. Numberplate scanning is why I held out some hope that it would be found, and usually most (found) stolen cars are found within 24-48 hours after being reported for this reason.

Definitely not a fun morning, but I'm a happy boy now!

It’s not naked eye visible even though they thought it might be once it passed the sun . It supposedly has a really cool tail which should become more prominent in photographs in a few days.

Doing my own hair has given me great respect for hairdressers, I've learned where I've got to shave up or down now after nearly thirty years of doing it myself. Getting a different head every hour and doing something nice with it must take some skill.

I wonder if it's not even more difficult for barbers, cos you're often dealing with jawlines and cheekbones that you can't even see.

As someone with one compressed cheekbone and misaligned jaws (hockey ball), and who has a weird cowlick on one side of my beard, I can't imagine how difficult it must be dealing with that every day.
