The yellows kept going on and off it was such a shit show who knows which drivers besides Max and Lando were actually shown double yellows.
Yep. The utter incompetence of the FIA was on full display this weekend. And the teams obviously think that using social media to make their case on penalties is worth a try.

Russell and the drivers were quite right to call out the clusterfeck surrounding the sacking of Wittich as Race Director and replacing him with a relative rookie. Sulayem's throw away line to that criticism saying “Do we tell them how to drive? Do we tell them what to have as their strategy? It’s none of their business,” might have seemed to him like a clever put down but it's now come back to bite him after the idiocy of leaving that wing mirror out there today which could have caused a serious accident.

As BomberFan355 said, the wrong person got sacked at FIA.

The pressure on Sulayem to resign has been mounting for many months and must be immense now - but no way it happens while they're racing in the Middle East. Will happen over the off season is my guess.

I could easily see Max quitting F1 to go do WEC or similar series and coming back a few years later.
You can clearly see it in his words and actions he is getting sick of the FIA bullshit.
I honestly think FIA would be happy if he left. They're all about America and oil money and Max doesn't fit their PR darling or interesting outside of racing guy they want to push so the fact Max keeps winning even with a basically non existent teammate and not even the best car now would annoy them. I mean he can be a brat but he clearly just loves racing.

I dont particularly like Lando, but that is tough.
Basically giving him a DSQ on grounds of safety, when the FIA were too chicken shit to call a safety car when they should have.

For once I agree.

And it wasn't just that they didn't call out a safety car immediately to get that mirror off the track. It's the fact that there was no yellow flag on the straight, and DRS was enabled when Bottas ran over the mirror (interestingly Bottas didn't have his DRS wing mirror open when he hit the mirror but Piastri just in front of him did which suggests even the teams didn't know wtf was happening). And no double yellows after that debris was strewn across the track.

An absolute clusterfeck of non decision making.

According to others and my brother the last few times someone was given a penalty for ignoring double waved yellows was in 2021 and both drivers got a 10 sec stop and go as did Rai in 2017 so the penalty was at least consistent.

Now the rest of that shit show was completely uncalled for.

When I watched it, it looked like he deliberately went out of his way to hit it.

Question, without having seen the race.

I wouldn't normally expect to see Piastri and Bottas sharing the same bit of race track, so I assume there was a reason for it. Was Bottas behind Piastri because of a Piastri pit stop, or because he had been lapped?

Assuming the latter, do lapped cars get DRS (obviously assuming that they are less than 1.0 seconds behind at the detection point)? Do cars have to be on the same lap as the car in front, in order to get DRS?

Bottas had pitted a few laps earlier so Piastri had just overtaken him on the straight and Leclerc was just about to overtake Bottas - I assume Bottas moved over to let LeClerc do that which is why he hit the mirror (LeClerc hadn't activated DRS wing wither).

Piastri's DRS flap had opened as he was coming up on Hulk in front of him on the straight. Not sure why his was allowed to open whereas Bottas' and LeClerc's didn't given there was a single yellow on that section.

And yes, as long as DRS is enabled for the race, any car can get DRS by being within 1 second of the car in front

Awesome to see Ocar on the podium, but that was just about as flawless drive as you'll ever see by Verstaapen. McLaren will be fuming with Lando's penalty. Last race set up nicely now for McLaren v Ferrari

As usual Skyf1 the British whinging channel going in depth about Lando getting a penalty. Forensic analysis of yellow flags and double yellows. My god they are ridiculous, he broke the rules and got punished. The amount of entitlement is staggering. They had a bad day Sky, all the Brits went crap and for me I’m loving it.

Lewis having a sook about the car and wanting to retire when there was nothing wrong with the car. The Brits really can’t handle not being up front and the centre of attention. 😂

My idea of a great race, Oscar on the podium and no Brits anywhere to be seen, with the whinging level up to 1,000.

I know it's less important than the Constructors Championship, but the gap between LeClerc and Norris has closed to just 8 points in the battle for 2nd in the Drivers Championship too.

Unfortunately, I don't think that will happen.

As I shared in the main thread, MBS is busy bribing his way to re-election while also firing 2 of the 4 guys that were on the FIA financial oversight committee because they dared to question MBS about said bribe money. :(

Seems Max is not happy with how RUS acted in the stewards room in regards to him getting a penalty. Max is saying that RUS was pushing for him to be penalised when normally there is a bit of an unwritten agreement between drivers in that they try to help each other out in the stewards room as next time it could be them etc.

Quote a few tasty quotes from Max after the race yesterday regarding it:

Piastri was just behind Bottas at the detection point, Le Clerc was more than a second behind Piastri at that point. Bottas then lets Piastri by before the last corner which allows him to have DRS down the straight while being ahead when the other 2 don't
