That would only be true if this specific stadium was actually necessary for the team and not just foisted upon us for reasons that no one can adequately explain.
The explanation is extremely straight forward. The business case relies on it, and Bellerive and York Park aren't up to scratch.

It really isn't that hard to understand why the AFL want a proper modern stadium to be built.

This can be accomplished without blowing a billion plus dollars on the one they''re currently railroading us with

Heh

Can't see that happening. The example stadiums with such roofs look like much more closed in designs anyway, whereas York Park (UTAS Stadium) is so big and open, if that makes sense.

It's that simple.
Folks still harping on about this are either trolling or just being obstinate contrarians that aren't worth the time engaging with.

Jeremy Rockliff began the week canvassing options for the stadium, now the urgency is creeping in

No doubt about 2028 entry now. From Rockcliff:
Good morning everyone, a quick update from me regarding Mac Point.

This is a once in a generation project.

One that we cannot afford to not deliver.

That’s why I’ve fought so hard on this, for years now.

We’re working on tight timeframes- I don’t want to wait another second to bring our AFL dream to life.

Any delays impact our ability to build an AFL club. To hire key staff.

To build a High Performance Centre in Kingston.

To send a message to workers finishing up on major projects like the Bridgewater Bridge that the next big project is coming.

It has become clear over the last week that the current process is undermining confidence in the future of the project.

So we’ll be bringing laws into Parliament to get the Mac Point Precinct approved.

And we’ll be doing it next month.

Every Member of the Tasmanian Parliament will have their say on this project - just as the current process requires.

And every Tasmanian will have the chance to give their feedback, to inform the legislation.

But make no mistake, this has already been the most scrutinised project in Tasmanian history.

And I'm taking this action because I believe it’s in the best interests of our great State.

It’s time to get building.

Projects that bypass formal approval processes, and that politicians instead choose to override, don't have a great history of success in Tasmania.

Which I guess doesn't really mean much. But the best indicator of the future that we have is the past.

Anyone advocating for backing out of the stadium deal is no friend of the Tasmanian team.

That's a pretty oversimplified and illogical take on it.

You have completely misunderstood the situation.

It actually is. But i expected you not to see it.
There is an agreement to give Tasmania a team if they build a proper modern stadium with a roof by 2029.

Undermining or advocating for pulling out of that agreement is just increasing the chances that the AFL delay their entry to the competition or cancel the whole thing.

If you think that is complicated, I don't know what else to tell you.

It isn't a complicated issue.

If you're really ****ing basic, I could see why one might think spending up to $1b of taxpayer money isn't a complicated issue

Macquarie Point stadium issues can be addressed by 'conditions' in legislation, premier says

Formal approval processors are usually a massive scam for the tax payers which sees pointless people in invented roles use made up highly convoluted and time consuming procedures to make simple things take months.

That's not how the public sees them. The appearance of some independence in the assessment phase is critical to gaining a social license. Projects that have tried to override that often fail because they are never able to obtain that social license - they usually try and buy it, which is objectively one of the worst uses of a PR budget that people like me ever sold.

I'm sure the reasons have been explained to you, you need to be prepared to listen however.

There was intense opposition from the usual suspects when the SA Gov’t ploughed ahead with the Adelaide Oval redevelopment and then when the WA Govt pushed through despite all the opposition to the new Perth Burswood stadium. All that opposition just vanished into thin air once the stadiums were completed.

The social license is always ultimately determined by the end result, not the means.
