The Premiership favourite- 2025

Not sure about daylight when the reigning premiers are 3-0. The only caveat to my comment is we just can't seem to beat the Hawks, so yeah I'd go with Hawks as favourites but not daylight.

Interesting that both teams started 0-3 last year and now both undefeated (4-0 & 3-0).
For me the forward line of Hawthorn's is their weakness mainly their keys their main KF is Chol.
there smalls are up their with the best.
I am not a massive Hipwood fan, but I do like Brisbane's hybrid forwards more.

Hawks are playing better footy than anyone atm but it's early & you don't want to be playing your best yet.
Brisbane are kind of just getting the job done, didn't look great against WCE but a lot of time for improvement.

Completely irrelevant observation

2024 Rd 3
Freo Melb Carl all 3-0,
Bris Haw both 0-3.
That said, since round 8 2024

Brisbane Lions 19 wins, 1 draw, 3 losses
Hawthorn 18 wins, 4 losses
Sydney 14 wins, 9 losses
W Bulldogs 13 wins, 6 losses
Port Adelaide 13 wins, 9 losses
Collingwood 11 wins, 1 draw, 6 losses
St Kilda 11 wins, 7 losses
GWS Giants 12 wins, 9 losses

Both have been easily the two best performed teams for more than a season of actual games. Melbourne absolutely collapsed last year (after being up since 2018) but Fremantle did not have that level across a 12 month period of performance.

This was the form line leading into last years finals series:

My tip is that St Kilda and Collingwood will make the eight probably in place of Port Adelaide and Geelong

Note Mitch Lewis and Calsher Dear should be a few weeks away.

It is funny, the way we play, 1 Big, 1 Med and 4 smalls seems to work bloody well.

I think Lewis and Chol will rotate, and Dear and Guston will too.

With the plethora of smalls, we can rotate Moore, Watson, Ginni, Mcdonald and Breust all year

And the fwd line can be both fresh, and the best version of itself come finals

Yes. We don't seemingly have any "Elites", but Flexibility is where we have the rest of the league covered, and (I think) our bottom 6 is better than any other bottom 6 in the comp.

That's debateable I'll throw up Lions bottom 6 players

Fletcher
Ah Chee
McKenna
Answerth
Payne
Reville

Yeah debatable as Brisbane are very deep as well. From last night and bearing in mind we were missing 4 maybe 5 best 22 players it would be

Maginness
Gunston
Ward
Jiath
Ginnivan
Morrison

And then Breust is sub

Meh you said the competitions best bottom 6 and Lions are also missing players like I said debateable

Both Brisbane and Geelong not getting the respect they deserve.

Brisbanes skill level was crazy good late in last nights game. Similar to the 2nd half of the prelim and granny. They are 3-0 without really firing yet and should cruise home into the top 4 from here. Geelong are always there abouts, maybe just short of the top few teams though.

I think the there are only four teams in it with a chance, Hawthorn, Brisbane, GWS and Collingwood. You can put a line through about 10 -12 others who range from emerging to just plain ordinary and forget completely Richmond, West Coast and possibly Melbourne? The 8 will look very different this year as i suspect Adelaide and Suns to be certainties which just leaves two spots in the 8 to be filled by some pretty mediocre teams. It's not as close as some people think!

I wouldn't be selling the Cats short especially if they finish top 4 you guys have a lot of GMHBA games this season

The concern with Geelong is they have to get through some tough games in the next 3 weeks. They can't afford to be 2-4 after the Easter Monday game

I never said the best bottom 6 that was another poster. I agree it is debatable. Think it is between Brisbane and Hawthorn though and then a bit of a gap to the rest

The Cats are not good enough and have slipped behind the Hawks, Suns, Crows and won't catch the Pies, Lions and Giants. They might win some games at home, but it's no longer the fortress it once was. The younger players have not come through as expected and as much as they were competitive last night against the Lions, it just proved they are mid table table battlers. i doubt they will finish much higher than 10th and maybe as low as 12th-14th?

Starce and Coleman to come in for Answerth and Reville, too.

IMO the bottom 6:

Ah Chee
Fletcher
Lashcroft
Lohmann
Morris
Day

With Doedee, Gardiner, McKenna, Answerth, Reville, McCarthy and Fort all not getting a game.

I apologise I do think Hawks are a great team and have tipped them the last 4 weeks but as I said there's still a little shakiness with the Lions and Hawks but it's early

That was kinda the point. Rd 3 last year had those 3 teams at the top, and those two teams at the bottom.
And it turned around to the form line you’ve shown.

Something to consider when writing teams off after 2-3 games

Thats because hawks KPFs are injured and expected back mid season. Hopefully they should be clicking nicely come finals.

Top 4. Easily. It's the Geelong way
