u kidding?
he works for fox, not the UFC.
His been doing MMA journalism longer than just about anyone.
does he have links/sources within the UFC? of course, he wouldn't be a good journo if he didn't.

anyone with UFC, AFL, NBA ect accreditation is a "bitch" in a way.

there's a reason you don't see Luke Thomas at any UFC events.. his been very critical of what Dana and the UFC have done in the past in terms of fighter treatment.
What journalism does he do ? There are others that have been around longer Jeff sherwood John Morgan for starters joss gross

Working for Fox rather than the UFC isn't really much of a difference. He's on a show called UFC Tonight. His close relationship with the UFC makes it tough for me to take much from opinions he expresses.

Also, this from a UFC embedded episode:

This is a fair statement, a lot of these guys don't want to attack the UFC as they don't want to lose their media accessibility.

That is one way the UFC have to control the media narrative.

Ariel Helwani does challenge fighters in a strategic manner through his line of questioning so he deserves credit for that.

As far as criticising the UFC, people on Fox, etc, always seem politically correct. The only people they attack are ones that criticise the UFC.

Even look at guys like Stephen A Smith and Skip Bayless, the way they normally conduct themselves suggest they would normally criticise the UFC whenever appropriate but they need people like Dana White to appear on their show so they need to somewhat toe a certain line to ensure they get them back on their program.

Why? He's never shown to be a one-sided journalist. He's never been one to not ask the tough questions to the UFC brass or fighters, I'm not sure why you'd choose to believe that he's not a credible journalist to listen to?

I don't think Helwani is a journalist. He's an on camera personality and a pretty good interviewer though. I guess we differ quite starkly immediately on this subject.

You really think he doesn't avoid tough questions concerning the UFC? He essentially works for the UFC, but he doesn't hold anything back? I don't buy it. I'd prefer to listen to people who aren't that closely linked to the UFC, or any promotion for that matter, because you're much more likely to get their honest opinion.

Helwani has changed a lot since joining Fox/UFC... He used to be basicly a dweby little kid hanging around events with his microphone begging for interviews at any opportunity as fighters walked past him anywhere at events and eventually gained a bit of respect because he is a fairly well educated fan and asked good questions... The old days with Rampage were the best...

Conor stuffed up, 1. Showboating against someone who is just way to tough to ever write off

2. He under estimated just how quick he'd gas carrying quick packed on muscle, but he is still the evolution of striking at his proper weight...

I too would like to see a Notorious v Showtime fight... Maybe also Wonder Boy one day :) as I like the way striking is having a bit of a renaissance at the moment...

my statement about Ariel was in response to someone asking if the Nate v Conor fight is t just a rumor, I said that Ariel is the most connected MMA "journo" (if the term journo isn't accurate in your opinion that's fair).
then mmapridescott said
hey enough of the Journo buisness he is the UFC bitch,
I don't know how that even remotely diminishes the fact Ariel is most likely on the money when it comes to this fight.

IMO if your breaking news your a journalist. if your well connected to the UFC and you break a fight, doesn't that give it more validity?

Yeah I care more about the content rather than the origin when it comes to media.

There's some pretty balanced journos for the AFL website, but then on the other end of the spectrum you have people like Mark Robinson who have no right to be anywhere near any form of media.

Look it's one area that bugs me with MMA media. Ariel get way too much credit for nothing really. When you follow this sport in this day when anyone with a laptop is a reporter it's frustrating. I know I tried lol....... Anyways this is the Connor thread
I think Ariel asks good questions, and tells the truth, unlike a lot.

The MMA Hour is awesome- hear all the latest news straight from the fighters themselves, the coaches, and other media-peoples mouths.

I realize it's a couple of random girls with zero evidence but a bit suprised it hasn't gotten any legs. Conor is a huge deal and this sort of thing would get clicks

He loves the $ but he's never been a party boy has he? Imagine he would come down with the almighty litigation hammer if it got legs.

Firstly, he is likeable, secondly, he taken defeat very well. Lastly, he might be white (which is usually a green light for the media to go at him), but he is Irish, and he came out hard at Mayweather when he pulled the race card on him. I think the media realize that they will need evidence against McGregor, if he is doing coke and smashing prostitutes (which in itself isn't illegal), the media will need footage.

Can we please stop bull-shitting on about Conor taking defeat well? It's the only way anybody should take defeat after getting TKO'd and choked out.

He's the most disrespectful mofo going around!

He's entertaining, yes, but please stop making his so called "humbleness in defeat" into something out-of-the-norm, or special... he got owned!

And please... no more excuses for Conor in getting defeated. ty

Not that we know of, as in he doesn't have Johnny Manziels reputation but that doesn't mean he doesn't do it, might have just been better at hiding it, or, he might have just started recently given his very fast rise.

But it is out of the norm, especially for an arrogant fighter.

Most of the mouths will do one of two things
1- claim it was a robbery/lucky punch/whatever and that they are the better fighter and always will be
2- disappear for a few months until everyone has moved on

He didn't, he took his kicks and got a rematch.

I'd like the way he responded to be the norm for any fighter but it's not at all.

I don't want to talk about the defeat any more but I agree completely with Dazalenko here.

If we are going to praise people for the way they handle defeat, let's praise a true champion in Holly Holm.
