Bitten the bullet and pre-ordered the Steamboat from the Stores. I had a GC to cover part of it and they're offering 2x points, which is in essence a $50 voucher, with it so that's better than nothing.

It means I don't get the GWP coming with the set, the Ticket Booth, but I figured this didn't add a whole lot, and I'd be unlikely to display it with the ship anyway.

Collection on 10/4.

Eying off the larger Ferrari but seeing the build process, I'm likely going to fail the build (damn steering technics lol!!!) So rather than have a gimped build I might have to be vobtent with high resolution pictures of it instead.

That Target price is insanely cheap at the moment.

I wouldn't be put off by the steering, especially if you've built anything similar before. The engines are kind of "build it once, build it 100 times", cos you'll quickly figure out the construction elements that you can/might/will screw up.

My only rider would be that most reviewers have said the Red Bull is a better build (it also has 200 more pieces), but I prefer the look of the Ferrari myself.

The red is an amazing looking lego piece on the shelf. I've been looking at some more of those acrylic boxes you see advertised on social media - I know I've been down that path before and it failed, but the videos look promising - but aside from the price, another consideration is how good the Ferrari and McLaren look in my black-background Ikea cabinet.

Going to sound pedantic but I've heard negative things about both K-mart and Targets postage of things including Lego........... might look silly to some but I'm ok with a slightly higher price so I can pick it up in person :p

** Did go through the Target ordering process and it's only available for post orders and not click & collect

Understand your concerns re postage, although my experience has been universally good. Almost all my orders are online and beyond a few creases in boxes from Amazon, I've never had a damaged box from any retailer. Good service with both courier and AP deliveries where I am.

My issue with K Mart is that they almost never have stock when they say they do, and orders get cancelled.

My biggest bugbear is the big anti-theft stickers that are usually on the Big W boxes that can't be removed.

I've heard of a few horror stories with Lego orders via Myer, DJ and Target mostly. I'd say things have improved over the last few years (when they used to do no packaging and just stick your postage label on the Lego box itself) but still playing it safe.

I got lucky with the Lego Bumblebee order I did via K-Mart. Expected a cancellation refund... but got a ready to collect email instead haha. Haven't tried my luck since then.

Most of my Lego purchases have been through BIG W either click and collect (the Batwings, the amazing spiderman frame) or delivered (66 Batmobile, Mighty Bowser etc).

A lot of the time the shelves may be empty.... but there will be pallets and pallets worth of Lego stock out the back that don't instantly get processed due to lack of staff. Of course there's also delivery issues, I know someone at another store that reckons they've got very little of anything, which will make shelves look bare with school holidays approaching.

But there are also many instances where the bigger sets (like the F1, Lion King and others) that are processed and ready for online orders or people that ask for them in store. But don't get put out due to high theft risks.

That large Ferrari is pretty sexy.

Funny thing is I'm also becoming more attracted to the larger Red Bull car as well. Then there's the larger classic F1 Williams (no real attachment to it other than using the same car in the F1 games in the 90s). I'm going to end up having a Lego car yard at some point :p

I'm going to see how I go with the F1 Ferrari before I decide to expand with more Lego cars. As I've said the 89 Batmobile was tricky (at first) and while I've had further success with other cars (BTTF DeLorean etc).... I still hesitate due to how tricky I initially found the 89 Batmobile as my first experience. I'll just go slow and if the instructions aren't clear I'll follow along the youtube step by step videos (and hopefully don't screw up!).

I'm going to do a mini clean up so I can have space to display the finish products. I may move the DeLorean, X-Wing and Millenium Falcon to alternate spots. I'd rather not put some of them where I'm probably going to have to - as it's a bit of a dust magnet. Hence why I'll likely check out those make-shift display cases in order to keep the lego sets as dust free as possible.

I'm on a bit of a hold up at the moment - I have Sunflowers, Mansell, 3 F1 Speed champs and Great Wave (still!) in the pile, and I'll order the Red Bull technic whenever the official site makes it worth my while... but this current foster dog is going to be particularly non-conducive to lego building, he's constantly wanting to be on my lap, and I'm almost certain he'd try and eat any pieces that I dropped.

I made a couple of mistakes with the Da Vinci Flying Machine but I got on the Builder app and figured it out. I like figuring out why things aren't working. It's part of the fun for me.

The only build I really didn't like was the light blue Vespa. I could just not get it to stay together and it frustrated the crap out of me.

Me with Lego in general, some of it looks great and they are great display pieces in general. In saying that if you need to move them from point a to point b you need to be so gentle with them otherwise you'll be picking it up piece by piece :p

Kinda makes me want to super glue it together so it never gets loose hahaha

Pics of dog please?

Misi comes and nosies at what I am building and sits on the cardboard I build it on but she doesn't touch built things. She bashes the brick separators around the tiles though because I think she likes the noise it makes.

Not the Kraggle!!!!

My least favourite part of all three Technic F1 cars has been the halo device. It's always been such a lazy presentation, in some ways the McLaren was probably a better starting point than the other 2. It reminds me every time I watch F1 and you see all the sponsors on the halo that aren't represented on the Lego versions.

Given how this F1 partnership is going - I've already seen rumours of 2 more coming next year, including possibly a re-done McLaren already - they could've and should've come up with a new part that they can print by now.

One issue I noticed was that one underside was stronger than the other side of the underside. It was weird as part of underneath just collapsed. I put it back together but it was flimsy.

2.5 hour build

Other than that issue under the car - I only had one silly hiccup. I used a small yellow brick with a part of the drivers seat, which left me with only 1 small and 1 large yellow brick for part of the front wing build. Luckily I was able to deduce the stuff up fairly quickly. Otherwise I'd be on here bleeding about being short changed a brick in the box :p

Now the football season is over, I need something to cheer me up. World of Chocolate was due in March, but won't be here until May. Shame that Mario & Kart is also may, that looks like just the ticket.

PS I built the Fireworks for a table display at a party. Very cute little set well done.

Built of the new Lego F1 cars that are about $30.

I thought it would be fun to build a whole grid but after doing one that thought fills me with dread. 269 tiny pieces and 20 stickers. Yuck.
On the plus side, though, these are immensely clever and pleasurable builds for the price. I'm not into F1 so I only have one, but it's very well done, and I'm told they're not cookie cutter so each one is a different build experience.

Stickers drove me nuts, is it on straight or even ? I did the best I could.

The Red Bull was fun, I'm going to do the mini Ferrari next weekend and the bigger Ferrari potentially the week after.
