$65 at Big W

Much more palatable than $79
Only question is when will I pull the trigger.

$58.50 - then a $20 gift card on top = a $38.50 purchase. Much more palatable for me than $79 as I said :p. Similar to getting the Lego Batwing (mini version) on the cheap compared to paying $49.

Have just built the STEM set, and it's a difficult one to review. It's a riot when finished, there's stuff going on everywhere and even some hidden Easter eggs. It has animation, great minifigures and of course covers a very positive subject.

It is, however a very fiddly build and the finished product is very fragile. The movement function must be used with care to avoid pieces falling off, and I suspect most people won't use it. It's also a smaller footprint than I expected.

People who know these things say the DNA spirals the wrong way, but you could change that if it bother you. The Carbon atom looks correct from what I remember of high school chemistry. The bee doesn't really gel and is very fiddly, but it's inclusion is cool.

The instructions explain the significance of the figures and each build stage, so are suitably immersive.

I'm glad Lego released this and if you are interested in the subject it's a must have. I think novice builders might get frustrated with some of the build steps. It's reasonably priced, and I imagine will eventually be available at the discounters.

3.5/5. One for science fans, lovers of micro builds and those seeking a good sized display model that's a conversation starter.

The Certified stores are doing some sales this week. After doing one of their "spend 450 and get a 100 voucher" yesterday, it's triple points today.

Shame I don't collect points from the certifieds. If it were triple points on the main site I probably would've bought the Red Bull 1:8 today.

Yeah it's so annoying that the two rewards systems are different, yet work exactly the same way. There were rumours a while back of them doing some work to integrate them, but I imagine that's easier said than done.

Lego.com in the US has occasionally had 3x points offers but I can't recall ever seeing the same here.

The Stores' gift card offers are often pretty good, and I usually time my purchases there to take advantage of those. I bought Mediaeval Town Square last year not long after release and got a $100 GC.

I bought my nephew a Lego F1 car for Christmas, mainly to keep him busy and away from Lego. It’s the one that you pull back and it races away.

Took him a couple of sessions but he finally finished it, seems a few strange leftover pieces and he’s apparently not a big fan of stickers! But it didn’t have the desired effect of keeping him away from mine.

Every time he visits I spend 20-30 minutes trying to work out which sets the pieces have come off…I’m away atm and tried putting furniture in front of the display, apparently unsuccessfully as he loved playing with the Batcave today…That nearly fell apart when I moved it so I shudder to think what’s left of it now, but he apparently loved the set.

I keep a few of the more interactive play sets built and ready for when the grandchildren arrive. They're not really into building Lego but they will play with it for hours. The Friends houses and various City cars and trucks go down well. Gives me an excuse to buy Friends, which is so much fun to put together.

They're not allowed near Mario, which seems a bit mean, I might have to buy some duplicates ;).

While down the street the other day my wife had us take an impromptu visit into Big W as she felt like getting a Lego "for the kids", ie. something she could build and then let them have.

They didn't have the one she wanted, but instead I saw a Horizon set and fell in love. Seemed good value for what it is compared with what a lot of other licensed stuff goes for (this one was $59). So my 8yo built the Shell Walker while my 5yo and I (in other words, I) built the Sawtooth.

Aloy & Varl vs. Shell-Walker & Sawtooth. Really cool set, the Horizon theme suits Lego so well.

I build Leonardo DA Vinci's Flying Machine. Some bits were a bit tricky and I did a few steps again.
I think it's worth the money which I wasn't sure of before I built it.
It was pretty awesome to see the flying mechanism work. It's a decent size too. Pic with recent bush plane for size comparison. I need more storage :(

Have 3 Lego related orders ready to pick up from the post office.

Eying off the larger Ferrari but seeing the build process, I'm likely going to fail the build (damn steering technics lol!!!) So rather than have a gimped build I might have to be vobtent with high resolution pictures of it instead.

Don't be put off by the Ferrari - it's been designed with the intent of attracting new customers to Lego who may be interested in the subject but not necessarily other Lego sets. I think you'll find the build reasonable. There are plenty of YouTubes of the build process if you're concerned.

I've not built that one but I have the earlier two, and neither was particularly complex. Give it a go, on sale at the moment for $269 at Big W and Amazon.

Yeah I saw a video of the transmission and I was like.... maybe I can still somehow build the red shell around a base of some sort lolol.

I know it's silly as I've built other cars (BTTF Delorean) and rebuilt the 89 Batmobile 3x... funnily enough it's the first attempt that gives me apprehension about the F1. But I've got slightly more confidence in re-engineering builds (undoing mistakes and redoing them correctly), previously I just got overwhelmed in like having to go back xx pages to fix a stuff up (hey it's a lot of bricks in having to remember where they go and to not lose them after taking it apart lol).

And I spotted the BIG W price for it last week which had me considering the purchase.

I'm pretty sure you wouldn't regret it. The transmission is pretty simple on this one (not like the 8-speed boxes they put in the Technic Supercars). As Ghost Patrol has pointed out, it's just gone on sale for $225 at Target. Big W usually has some kind of Lego sale in the school holidays, but I haven't seen any notification of that yet.

My only rider would be that most reviewers have said the Red Bull is a better build (it also has 200 more pieces), but I prefer the look of the Ferrari myself.

Red goes faster so naturally it is better by default!
