From what I know/hear most of the books/films mentioned in this thread are very, very unreliable.

I'd disagree but add that folks are best of reading all three as each has facets that the other doesnt. It seems true that there's some errors in there but I wouldn't say very very unreliable unless you're reading hoping to have the complete picture which nobody has. They're all definitely worth a read.

Unlike Catching Zodiac by Dale Julin which would have the most mild mannered reader wanting to throttle the author for jumping to conclusions and some very wild theorising. Also recommended but for reasons of self flagellation reading.

I mainly bought it as i am mentioned in it. It's ok but a bit disjointed, jumps around a bit. I'd like to see her Foxtel series but too cheap to pay for it lol
Haha i also discovered its pay to view the other night and couldnt find a torrent. Can I ask where you're mentioned in the book?

Do any of the three books mention speaking specifically to the finders of bodies?
Banquet specific mentions;
Alan’s body - “two friends, on an afternoon bike ride through the gentle sloping Adelaide Hills, leave their motorcycle on the side of the road and clamber down the hill into the South Para Reservoir grounds. It is quiet on this old road, only a gentle breeze fanned by towering gum trees. A gentle breeze fanning a corpse.”
Neil - “service station manager Kevin Ede…”
Peter - “farmer Robert Hart, while sitting high in his tractor seat spraying weed killer, spies bones…”
Mark - “Wayne Boulton and his father, both weed contractors, are spraying and suffocating blackberries…”

The man who discovered Neil Muir's body was named in Banquet and Dissected. Both books describe him as a service station owner. Bob O'Brien, in Young Blood, describes him - unnamed - as a Department of Marine and Harbours employee, as did at least one early newspaper report.

None of the books refer to a caravan near the site of Richard's body.
He wasn't a M&H employee, but there's a M&H office along Veitch Rd where he went to call the police and then half (all?) the office popped down to have a look and were probably still hanging around when the police arrived.

I've read critiques and summaries of them. Mostly negative - saying 'nothing hew here'.
Because if this case and forum has proven anything, it’s that we have to believe everyone for their word, right?

Just weird you aren’t willing to read the material for yourself before forming an opinion.

I find Dissected and Banquet could have been written better but the positive aspect is that both authors reviewed original court files and Banquet interviewed numerous people.

I gather that not everything in these two books is always a perfect representation of what was said in court.

However, all books and all the reference material around are useful because they all fill different knowledge gaps and offer clues that you can look into further.

I haven’t read Young Blood for a while now.

There is also a lot of recollections and stories online. You have to take them all with a pinch of salt but some of the stories told by alleged victims are valuable reading.

Hendrix27 mentioned earlier that he/she was mentioned in the Banquet book. Maybe he/she can give some indication of whether direct contact was received from the author and if the content was an accurate and contextual reflection of the situation being discussed?

So this place is both a source of no factual information and also a trustable review source for other's factual information? I think you'd present a great critique of the books if you read them and I'd be keen to read what you think of them but dismissing them because you think people here have dismissed them seems pretty silly.

In reality I would guess that most people here would recommend reading all 3 for the different facets offered.

I've dismissed them because of what people have said elsewhere. Not here.

Most people in this forum seem to love them (or anything about the murders, despite - often - a lack of any new facts.).
If someone has said nothing new about all three books then theyre either a cop with access to all the evidence or someone who believes that every politicianlawyercop in town is in the family. Anyone else would learn something new from the books. You might be able to give a good account as to any points they might have the era wrong. Having said that there's a lot of other books in the world to read. I highly recommend Cannery Row by Steinbeck.

No... as I think I said, the people in this thread would not dismiss them since most seem fixated.

It's other people (not here) who have reviewed them as 'poorly written', 'lacking in evidence' and 'speculative'..

If you can find any reviews rating them highly, please post a link on here..

How about you just pick up the books and read them for yourself?

That way, we get the benefit of your lived experience being able to comment on the accuracy.

I know little more than being on the periphery of these crimes. And meeting one or two of the people named in this thread.

Oh - and being accused in here - for some bizarre reason(s) - of being an accessory....
Really struggling to make any sense of this. You won’t read the books because other people said they aren’t accurate, but then won’t read them because you were only peripheral and can’t comment on accuracy?

Well there was the incident with the handcuffs. That was quite damning. :D

Also we still haven't heard how that ended.
