I'm wondering with this, and with something i'm looking at in the Beaumont case, if these military families are able to exert pressure or influence to protect their own; and also if it might be something like the protection that priests got for way too long. Some of that was just social influence that placed them, incorrectly, beyond suspicion. JL would have been in a better position than R or MGL, having lived on a base through most of her childhood, where as the others were WWII officers then back to civilian life. MGL's father was the only one i'm aware of to live past 1982, so you'd think any impact they could have would have long since waned.

In relation about the book 'The Family Murders: Dissected'.

Yes I’m one of the authors ( Wendy )
Glad you are finding it insightful. We have changed names and used single letters where required to protect the identity of certain people for good reason, we don't want to end up in a defamation case nor do we want to squash the chances of any future prosecutions, so I shall respectfully decline to answer questions relating to identity.

I could be wrong but I am certain she maybe one of the two that were acquitted of a (pedophile) sex claim defamation case in 2008.. which would make more sense as to why the wording and references in the book read funny.

I would say that Mr R's 'assistant' who 'suicided' within a very short time of the Daniel Sheppard disappearance would have 'hopefully' been looked into by the police. That timing reeks to high heaven.

That assistant also referred to as 'Goldy' is Mark Goulding. From a source I was told they knew of Mr R. He said his nick name back then was Ruby Red Dress. He also mentioned he drove a red Mercedes and to the point he mentioned he knew Mark who was an assistant of Mr R's, he went on to say he had committed suicide due to a build up of depression from a failed relationship/breakup at the time.
Whether or not any of that is true, the conversation was sparked from something unrelated and I only remembered him telling me after I had read those two books.

That assistant also referred to as 'Goldy' is Mark Goulding. From a source who coincidentally has the same name as the young bloke who was in the city with Barnes, BVE and Woodards.. (although his age does not line up to being this person) I was told they knew of Mr R. He said his nick name in the scene back then was Ruby Red Dress and he hated it due to sounding emasculating. He also mentioned he drove a red Mercedes and to the point he mentioned he knew Mark who was an assistant of Mr R's, he went on to say he had committed suicide due to a build up of depression from a failed relationship/breakup at the time.

I am a little confused here. Who were Mr R's assistants over time. Including MGL

did he say how Mr R got the nick name Ruby Red Dress?

Thought I’d give an update on them:

Mr R or the Businessman - getting older, but still looks physically healthy, thinning but still got a decent set of hair on him, albeit he wears the same clothes most days he has worn for years and is a bit of a slob. He has 7 cars that he interchangeably drives everyday up to 10 times a day - he’s no hermit. Not sure what he’s up to but looks like it’s more just something he wants to do rather than going somewhere.

MGL - also getting older - but he physically looks older now, a lot like Rolph Harris - he’s uneasy on his feet and is using a cane.

And this is mark goulding - I wouldn’t usually want to share a pic of him or people loosely associated, but he did provide an alibi to the businessman

I've yet to see an uncensored photo of R (or B, or MGL for that matter), but his father's WWII enlistment mugshot is a reasonable match for the Beaumont children suspect sketch. Scored higher than i expected on an AI face comparison, though far from conclusive. He was plainly way too old, but R was about 21. Is it possible B was either misdirecting or repeating something he'd heard after having a drink spiked? Serious long shot, but criminology points to these creatures having history pre-79. Especially R and BVE being in their 30s before they apparently got started.

Also, does anybody know if police or media have taken care to ensure they have contemporaneous photos of the main suspects?

so assuming that Greg McInerney is correct with his stories about Nurse Jacqui - she was deep into all of this as she was housemates with Mr B and the death threat to Mr B from Mr R/MGL happened at that sharehouse. She would have known about Alan and so there's no way that if she was present at the Kelvin kidnapping she was thinking 'oh that's just Bevan just being mischievous' - she knew that murder was a highly possible destination. I hope police grilled her and also her girlfriend(s).

I had initially wondered whether Greg knew about her role from her being a whistleblower but re-thinking her level of involvement makes me think she wasn't any kind of whistleblower. We really need Greg to help with a few of his sources.

We've been told a number of suspects' homes were searched at the time VE was arrested. JL and B don't seem to be included in that. One was located in Qld and making return trips to Adelaide and seemingly treated as a witness/informant rather than a suspect, despite a key role in sabotaging the second trial. The other maybe providing some information, but with potential links to most of the victims and indicated by Greg McInerny to be likely involved in Richard Kelvin's abduction. It's understandable that informants are given special treatment and protections, but with these two, it looks like really poor decision making.

My personal theory - and it doesn't just relate to SA - is that it was almost a copycat scenario, whereby similar crimes occurring overseas (mainly USA) had started to become publicised throughout the 1970s, and it triggered something within the local offenders.

Mor specifically, Gacy was arrested in late 1978, and the first known local victim was killed in 1979.

A few years earlier Dean Corll was arrested, whilst William Bonin was wreaking havoc throught the 70s until his capture in 1980

The above targeted boys/men, but in the 1970s there were also prominent serial killers such as Bundy, and locally the Truro murders.

So I'm thinking that by the late 1970s with an increasingly connected world media, it was something that influenced likeminded individuals locally.

I've often wondered too whether the murder of George Duncan had any effect on BVE, given he was literally in the vicinity at the time of the attacks on gay men around the River Torrens in the early 70s.
There was also the murderer Randy Craft, who committed crimes and murders around the same time period that were very similar to BSVE.

Sometimes I think that BVE's motivations weren't necessarily all about sex, but also class. Classist BVE felt insecure about his place in the social order of old snobby, conservative Adelaide and even in homosexual circles wanted to be amongst those he deemed of high class. By procuring drugs and boys for the likes of doctors, solicitors, businessmen etc. BVE was trying to ingratiate himself with who he felt were the local gay aristocracy. He probably thought the more daring and depraved his antics were, the more he would curry favor with these people.

The narcissist in BVE would have loved to have told people about the evil and perverted things he was doing. He thought he was one of them, proving he was just as smart - they in turn probably just used him, perhaps even laughed at him behind his back. BVE was a sycophant. Did he know who Richard Kelvin was before he abducted him? Did he consider it a notch in his belt to kidnap the good-looking straight son of a local media celebrity?

Did the snobbish BVE allow himself to kill the boys because, with the exception of Kelvin, he believed the others to be no more than lower-class riff raff? I doubt he considered Tutur and the transgender girls his friends or social equals, he was probably just using them to attract the boys into the car and for their house as a place to take them.
He was also supplying them with pills, he was a drug supplier to them. They did what he wanted to get what they wanted and also took advantage of his "left overs"
The only only who really knows, apart from BSVE, is his mate Lewis T.
I hope that when he dies that he leaves a confession to his role and what really happened to the innocent boys and young men.
BSVE will never admit to his role or disclose the names of others involved because if they talk it would only dig a deeper hole for him.
I believe that's why he never named names and those questioned kept their mouth shut.
Funny, you should mention Riff Raff, as they were all great fans of The Rocky Horror Picture show.
Was BSVE playing Dr Frankinstein/Dr. Frank-N-Furter, with what he did to Neil and some of the other young men?
I believe that towards the end, of his reign of terror and murder, he had truly lost the plot.
I believe the he was making snuff films and that is the reason for his trip to Europe to get rid of them.
He was leaving a legacy for all the sicko's in the world.

The fact that Dr Millhouse felt he had to make mention that he was “ a totally inadequate surgeon" has always seemed to me to be an attempt to divert attention away from himself. Surely, as a doctor, he would have had a better understanding of the human body and knowledge of dissection than the rest of us and despite his apparent self-admitted inadequacy, he most certainly could have been capable of calving up poor Neil Muir.
Neil was known to travel to Gladstone to obtain and service Dr Millhouse in return for pills.
Were they sexually involved, I don't believe so, but Neil catered to the doctor obsessions with humiliation and domination.
I have heard, on good authority from someone who had driven Neil there on one occasion, that there were people sitting in the waiting room waiting to see the Doc while Neil was giving him his golden shower. Apparently they had a good laugh about it when he returned to the car and they traveled back to Adelaide.

Going out on a limb here but is it possible that Neil Muir was actually a part of The Family, albeit not necessarily involved in the murders. We know he was most probably a rent boy giving sexual favors to Millhouse and BVE in exchange for money /drugs. The expensive antique ring he was seen wearing we can assume came from Mr. R., so that's three suspects he knows and, apparently, he had been friends with one of the transgender girls for a few years. Their connection could have been drugs, however, it seems strange that a young straight man in the 70s would be friends with a transgender woman. Remember at the time these trans women were considered social outcasts.

Was Muir straight? He had a seven- year- old daughter when he was killed and apparently he was engaged to be married, but that doesn't necessarily make him straight. Was he bi? Was Neil Muir transgender? We've heard from his sister and friends that he had an androgynous, even effeminate appearance; long hair and slight of body, a 'pretty' man etc. Did BVE use Muir dressed as a woman to lure young guys into his car?

Muir was older than the other victims, they being in late adolescence, he a young man. It has been suggested he was killed for snitching to cops, does that explain why his was the most brutal of the murders, one of their own had done the dirty on them? Was the mutilation an attempt at post-mortem sex change? Was he just providing sexual services for Derrance Stevenson or was he a part of his deviant hobbies? Food for thought.
I agree with you in part.
I believe that Neil was killed because he had found out what BSVE had done to Alan Barnes and mentioned to someone that he was going to the cops. He was a liability and had to be gotten rid of.
I also believe that he was tortured the way he was due to it being personal.

I don't believe that Dr Millhouse had anything to do with it because he was in love with Neil.

There was also friends of BSVE Dr Robert Cowan, Port Rd Croydon, and also the forensic pathologist Dr Colin Manock (who had a second residence apart from his North Adelaide unit, at 54 Cavendish Ave, Devon Pk. Why a second home???
Handy house because BSVE used to frequent the Hope Inn and many of the same venues and was sure to have made his acquaintance, not far from there.
Manock, who later married a Dominatrix trans woman would have frequented the same establishments as many of the fetish gay, trans etc community.

Shadows. This is the first I have ever heard this re Dr. M. Do you have a reference source for this information or is it speculative?

What evidence do you have that (1) Manock was 'friends' with BVE and (2) Manock was occupying both those residences simultaneously? And that BSVE and/or Manock were frequenting the 'Hope Inn'? Which Hope Inn?

Do you have any evidence Manock was 'frequenting the same establishments' as the trans community pre mid 80s or is this a supposition? Likewise, do you have anything substantive to back your claim that Millhouse 'was in love with Neil'?

While the spectre of Millhouse lingers: part of the limited Sydney Morning Herald coverage of his trial and acquittal.

He died, aged 80, in Cessnock, west of Newcastle, in 2015. He seems to have been there from at least 1991 when he was named executor in a will.

Case Study 42 of the child abuse royal commission covers crimes of a network within the Anglican Church around Newcastle, including St Alban's Home For Boys in the vicinity (1.8km) of the home of the woman whose will he was executor for. There's no apparent evidence connecting her or her late husband to that facility. It closed in 1980, Millhouse was quite occupied in Adelaide at the time. The pedophile network in the area was substantial, perhaps still is, and, from personal experience, very probably extended beyond the church. The understanding i had as a child - adult perspective applied - was that there was a much wider network connected for the purpose of pornography distribution. There's no evidence i'm aware of linking Millhouse - other than location - but anybody wanting to look into his activities might find some answers there. Take your own security.
