The CFMEU vs the AFL

Except for the Commissions findings into industry super funds. Because the LNP and their mates in the big banks are just jealous that industry super funds do capitalism better than they do.

All that other stuff about approving loans and credit cards for the intellectually disabled, selling insurance to dead people, and allowing child molesters to use your online banking portals was just not worth looking into according to the Liberal Nationals at the time.
The problem with industry super funds from the LNP perspective is that it's the wrong people running them

Setkas expectations are ludicrous
Suggests he's been able to get away with all sorts of crap in the past
There's talk now of the ETU and other left unions getting involved, and even taking it to the ACTU
Ludicrous is the word but it does have the potential to cost the AFL big time.
In another era even Frank Sinatra backed down when it looked like his plane would never get off the tarmac and he'd be stuck in Australia forever. Maybe Setka thinks he's the 2020s manifestation of Bob Hawke

Who in the AFL gave McBurney the golden parachute after he lost his Liberal National $450K p.a. gig with the ABCC?

Anyone who thinks the AFL is apolitical is mistaken. Venues NSW in conjunction with the AFL administration just love that sweet advertising money (see SCG Swans Versus Cats game last weekend) from the likes of Employsure (Done Brothers/BetFred UK Racetrack empire) masquerading as the Fair Work Ombudsman.

The afl has always been aligned with the labor party though, Bill kelty got Demetriou the gig back in the day, there have always been links there.

I'm not sure why the hang up on employsure and what it's got to do with union bullying of the AFL and their employees?

Really? A pro-employer business found guilty of masquerading as the Fair Work Ombudsman (part of our democratically elected government system) that is owned by gambling billionaires advertising via the AFL that allowed them to advertise on AFL ground fences?

All I can conclude from this is that the AFL is happy to take money from billionaires who have no respect for workers rights and are also happy to give well paid jobs to partisan political appointments like McBurney when the people vote the government out that appointed him.

Hey Steve McBurney want a job?

Who cares? Lol. What's wrong with a business representing employers? There are over 700,000 businesses in Victoria, over 90 percent of them small, should they not have anyone they can go to? I stated previously I don't rate employsure, employers should just use their industry association if they need help, but I don't get the hang up. The afl advertise gambling companies everywhere, fast food etc, but aren't allowed to advertise a business that offers services to business owners? It's a very strange take to say the least.

Q. Should the AFL be concerned by businesses that advertise on AFL grounds while their owners have been found guilty of masquerading themselves as being a Federal Government entity online to the unsuspecting public?

A. Yes

A. Lots

Report them to the ACCC then. A lot of businesses do this to unsuspecting employers. I use to be aware of one place getting around going into businesses saying 'yeah we're worksafe solutions', basically misleading an employer into thinking they are from worksafe, it happens a lot and yes ive heard a lot of dodgey behaviour from employsure too. I just don't think it's something for the afl to worry about though.

Yeah nah.

Both John Cain Snr and Jnr. bullied the league with legislation as vote getting exercises, but club boards and the AFL itself are mostly run by weslthy individuals leaning Right.

EG Several clubs are private businesses, Melbourne FC is wholly owned by the MCC (not a union organisation). AFL House has some ex players (who come from across the political spectrum) but Gillon is a blue blood member of the SA Squattocracy.

Past AFL leaders include Sir Kenneth Luke, millionaire, right winger, and notorious for introducing the compromised country zones and moving the site of the proposed owned stadium from Ruthven to Waverly- wonder who profited from the real estate deal there?

Interestingly the Wiki article doesn't mention this, instead emphasizing that John Cain Snr was an MCC member as toffee. was some establishment toff. Talk about historical revisionism, the State Goverment was on board for a league owned stadium in the northern suburbs, and even agreed to provide two rail links (a loop linking Greensborough and Epping lines), then Sir Kenneth pulled the old switcheroo.

Labor involvement in the league has been characterized by populism and bullying. Right wing involvement has a stench of corruption, and the move of footy from sport to franchised business has been the work of right wing affiliated figures.
