kudos to madi for admitting what everyone else was thinking - wanna beat the twins.

the twins, thought attractive in terms of what was on offer at the block, was interesting viewing when the other auctions were on. could almost feel and see the evil emanating from their womanly pores. their faces said it all - please autioneer slam the hammer, stop the auction!!!

Ok I'm only reading some online blog on their website. It didn't make that clear.

Trying to avoid massive ad breaks. I just can't sit through them these days. I can stand as many T-shirts, product placements and pop up bars as they want but if they do that and persist with normal commercial breaks it overloads me. TV is going to die if they don't get real about this.

This is what made me feel better about them winning, they have to halve it and take their portion home to their respective families, everyone else is already a couple so get to keep everything.

I'd still like to see what all the renos cost, and whether the money made above reserve is more or less than that cost...

You talking about tv ad revenue? The actual sales and renovation of the buildings themselves would of made a loss.

This is more what I was getting at, if 5 private couples bought the same building and did the exact same things, but without filming it and spending their own money, would it still have turned a profit?

No because they couldn't do it exactly the same.

They wouldn't be able to spend as much on tradies.

If they did all the work without paying for hired help and went for value products rather than the sponsored stuff that was used on the show I'd say yes it would be profitable.

You would definitely make money but markets dictate how much you would make. Once you take into account your profit (pure money above what you initially paid) and loss (reno, fees, interest on loans ((unless you have the upfront cap to do it)) etc) it would likely be alot less than what they make on the block. There was an article about it a while back where heaps of DIY wannabes were bitching about how they only made $30-$40k after doing reno for a year. Long story short if you ignore that these couple got given the property for free, a budget they dont pay for, a bunch of works etc for free and expect to make the money they do, you are an idiot. It's worth it (in my opinion) but its a tough long hard slog and if you dont have a passion for renovating and have no DIY skills yourself its going to be really, really hard.

Couldn't find the new thread if there even is one. Was speaking to a guy who is working on the new season of the block and one of the couples is Dale and Brad. Let's hope the actual contestants aren't as dull and lifeless as last seasons.
