I'm speaking from Melbourne here, but lately I have had a spate of shit kebabs. Well, not shit, but not that great, I really just want that post drinking, damn fine lamb kebab that is so fabled after a big night out.

I find the 'lamb' to not really be lamb, rather, it's that processed SPAM-looking stuff.

Where can I get a quality lamb kebab in Melbourne? Or anywhere for that matter?

In Adelaide we call them Yiros and generally most places have the proper meat, unlike interstate where you get that loaf compressed shit.

Best I reckon is Yanni's Yiros at the West end of Hindley street. Huge horizontal spit over coals, with proper chicken, lamb and pork. Nothing but Yiros, no chips, no fish, no hamburgers, no nothing, just Yiros. Cash only. Awesome.

Savvas Yiros Unley Road is quality, they make great falafel too.

Sam's cafe in Geelong does THE best Shawarma (marinated lamb kebab with awesome sauce) I have ever had.... I think about them all the time and get incredibly depressed when I try a "shawarma" up here in Sydney which is inevitably disappointing :(

Stalactites or GTFO
Yyyyyyeeees!

A few years ago, me and my dad got into Melbourne at about 1am. We were absolutely starving, my uncle met us at the airport and recommended it. I always go when I'm in Melbourne, it's just so good.

Nowhere in Perth comes close. Maybe that place in Freo, Ali Baba is it?

Kosmos in leederville was good 20 years ago and still is. Peters by the sea was good 20 years ago and crap now.

Bundoora Kebabs, Plenty Road.

First it was Parmi, now Yiros. Is there a separate South Australian dictionary available?

tibas in melbourne was without a doubt the best lebanese restauraunt ive ever been to. unbelievably delicious

as for stalacites looks like i have a new place to try when i head there again.

for the lads in the west. the little castle in vic park has this pricey platter 20 bucks but its quite delish. theres this platter at the turkish restauraunt alaturka which is quite tasty but a bit pricey.

for a cheap tasty kebab turkish oven in vic park or little lebanon in joondana is pretty good.

Kebab van at the servo on the corner of Mt Alexander Rd and Flemington St (next to the Red Rooster, just past Flemington Bridge station). I lived in that area for just over a year recently and they were consistently the best kebabs I've ever had.

Lambs on Lygon St Carlton

Stalactites on Cnr Russell and Lonsdale

Lambs on High St Northcote

Gonna have to check out some of these other recommendations. I'll be in Melbourne this time next week, I might have to persuade Gibbsy to get into the greatness of Stalactites.

I can't speak for Melbourne, but some of the genuine turkish places in Germany are absolutely fantastic. I'm thinking a trip to turkey might be on the cards, those people definitely know how to eat! I hear people heralding Italy as the epitome of food goodness, but the Turks certainly know what they're doing.
