Too many people drink too much Kool Aid these days.
90% of these draft picks are speculative and will be lucky to play 50 games. In reality, playing a single AFL game is a major achievement. Creating a major fanfare and building (unreasonable) expectations probably does more harm than good. In reality, Jiath (appears) to be your typical “Collingwood 6 footer” run of the mill player. He’s unlikely to be a “spine” piece. Call me old fashioned. I like a spine. Though, we did win a flag without a conventional spine. Can we do it again? Who knows? I doubt it….
(That’s why I would’ve gone for an Archer Reid or Ollie Murphy. We could’ve got at least ONE).

Many here have a glass-half-empty outlook but the way you've just described the defensive line-up is award material.

Bruzzy and IQ aren't too shabby.

Leggy goes OK.

JFN couldn't get a game because we have to fit Crisp in there.

An injured Moore would be impossible to cover in any side. Murphy would be an enormous loss, as was Langdon when his career was cut short way too soon.

It's OK to not rate a recruit but the way you've just described the backline isn't based on the reality that this team has just won a flag.

EDIT: I would have drafted the kid just to spite Hawthorn.

Tew's physique is genetic, so, while he looks slender, he's probably stronger than he looks.
A couple of preseasons will build him up, but he'll never be massive.
That would compromise his speed and agility in any case.
To draw a Hawthorn comparison, he's built a bit like Michael Tuck - lean and wiry.
And like his brother, of course.

Thats a terrible take on player development. We won the flag so naturally we weren't blooding kids this year too often. No point playing them if they aren't ready

Lions lost the flag by 4 points and they’ve blooded plenty of kids.
Look out for them next year.

Tew seems like the Howe replacement so I don’t mind it too much

My issue is that Schoenmaker was available…twice for us to take and we didn’t take him

So we must have some kind of succession plan for KPB that none of us are aware of

Jiath + Schoenmaker would’ve been nicer….

I think I'm right in saying that the selection used to draft Tew was originally tied to Hawthorn and was part of the pick upgrade in the deal for Ginni.

Adds a bit of extra satisfaction.

Watch them pick LQ next year out of sheer spite. Hopefully they change the rules and we can match!

Then Rayner, like a honeybee having fired his one shot, promptly died only to have his dessicated corpse trotted out on gamedays for the remainder of the season.

I agree with you - it's more that I don't think TJ's current physique is in any way a detriment.
