Sydney to go all out to secure Everitt

lol, as if being mentioned by Hawthorn would 'unsettle' him.

If I was Nick Malceski I'd weigh up the situation as follows:
- After many years hard work, including one long term injury, I've just managed to cement a spot in a side which has a good chance to win the premiership next year.
VERSUS
- Get traded to a club whose finals chances are borderline at best, and god knows where I stand within that club.

Not a hard choice IMO.

As for 2006 Grand Final player Nick Malceski, Roos said the young Swan would not be traded to the Hawks.

"Absolutely, he won't be going anywhere," Roos said.

Why would it 'unsettle' him? All the players would know exactly where their standing is at the club, he wouldn't have to worry for a second about his position.

That's not the way Pelchen works. If it were that simple Pelchen wouldn't have mentioned his name publicly.
Pelchen (and Miller at Richmond) are infamous for the way they work (and their egos).

Because Sydney haven't publicly stated Malceski isn't available, the trade talk will continue and that's the way Pelchen works, unsettling a guy like Malceski.

Nothing is likely to come of it, but Pelchen's hope is that Malceski turns around and worries Sydney don't rate him and indicates a willingness to move back to Victoria.

Actually Roos has stated categorically that Mal will be staying at Sydney.

All this talk of unsettling players is pretty flimsy stuff IMHO.

Malceski is a future captain of the bloods!
He's not going anywhere. Best left foot in the land!

Everitt will be a Swan for a 3rd round pick!
Or.......
We'll get him via the draft & the Hawks get nothing.
We're not talking about a 21 year old future champion here.
We're talking about a bloke that missed half the year for the Hawks due to injury. His best football is behind him & Hawthorn are smart enough to know that. They can only see one year in him. We can see two.
He suits what the Swans are after. A clever tap ruckman that can help us win a flag in our window of opportunity. Which is only another two years. IMO.
He doesn't seem to fit into any other teams plans.
But .......... he will come at a risk! But the Swans are one of the few clubs that can take that chance given our recent success.
Cheers!

The Hawks turned down the 3rd round pick offer. They said they want a better offer.

Pshh...sorry, we're not going to give them our 1st round pick for Everitt.

They're just seeing what they can get. It's seen as unforgivable for a club that is rebuilding, as Hawthorn is, to let a player they see as only having one year left, go into the draft, whilst they get nothing in return.
Don't worry............they'll take the 3rd round draft pick alright come Friday!!

I think we picked up Ryan O'keefe ( I could be wrong) with a 3rd round pick.
Many champions have been picked up in the 3rd round. And there has never been a stronger draft according to those in the know!
So it's totally in Hawthorns court. And I don't think they are that stupid.

Roosy turned that down, when Hawks wanted at least a 2nd round pick. Good thinking Paul Roos, in saything that Everitt only has a couple of seasons left in him anyways.

Hawks said that there is another club who have offered their 2nd round pick for Everitt. They wouldn't say which club though....

apparently StK threw up their 2nd rd, no 27. Sheldon then went on to say no concrete offers had been made...all huff anbd puff at this stage.

Has Syd offered pick 33 yet?

No not yet, but it's only Tuesday, everything will change before the end. St. Kilda is rumoured to be looking at a cheaper ruckman, perhaps Clark Keating, but have still put up their 2nd round pick for him. So if the Swans are serious, which signs suggest they are, then they'll probably have to upgrade that offer soon.

It's an upgrade:thumbsu:

Will we get any more is the question!

What are the odds that the other club is St Kilda?

It's only Tuesday night! Means we have already made progress, just wait for the article stating the offer has been upped again.

Anyway Pick 33 aint to bad for a 32 year-old in the SUPERDRAFT!

In another win, Roosey claimed he wouldn't trade "A first or second rounder", he has gone back on him word.:thumbsu:

I know. I was surprised when they upgraded the offer. :( I thought Roosy was going to keep his word....

no such thing as honesty and keeping ones word during trade week.

watch pagan do a 180 degree turn with double back flip once we put a decent offer fwd.

Roos did also say that he would do whatever it took to give Kirk, Baz and Leo another shot at finals and a premiership.. so he's obviously doing what he feels we need to do to make that happen.

Indeed he is doing the right thing by giving up a second rounder, but he shouldn't have ruled out giving it away in the first place.

If Swans get Everitt, I will be off to the TAB, with them as a good bet for the flag!!!

^Awww... how sweet of Roosy.

However, i was convinced that Roos wouldn't upgrade. *sighs* the unpredictability of trade week..

Please don't put my hopes up... :D

Now i'm more excited...

There was always going to be movement of some sort. Opening bids are just that. Roos actually retracted his comment he wouldn't draft the second round bid a few days ago. Had he not initially rule it out, the Swans' second round pick would have become the opening bid.

I think a second round pick (a very late one mind - as far as the Hawks are concerned its the type of pick they're used to having as a third rounder) is probably a fair price to pay. And I've been saying that for several days. If the Swans can upgrade some of their picks by swapping them with the Hawks, all the better.

Another way to look at this revised offer is

Our 3rd round pick for Everitt
and
we downgrade our 2nd rounder for their 3rd rounder (which is not as dramatic as it sounds because of our finishing positions)

Everitt for Swans 2nd round pick (33)
3rd round picks get swapped. i.e. Swans get our pick 40 and we get Swannies pick 49 which we'll use on F/S.
This should've gone through 10:30am yesterday
