I'd only be resting a player if we wanted to see how someone else will go

The line-up is fine but the effort wasn't

That said, if fit Mills and Amarty in for Stephens and Reid

Reid since his return a couple of weeks ago looks way off the pace compared to early season form. Seems to struggle to kick the distance from 40 out let alone any form of accuracy.

Would be a brave call but I’d drop him for Amartey who also can provide a better second ruck option.

Reid has experience and discipline to execute his role. Perfect world he regained form in the reserves but is being given a chance to get up to speed as he’s important to us as a link up marking option. Amartey road the wave of good team form and contributed to it. Rightly or wrongly they’ve made the call that Reid’s the option. Unlikely they would drop him for the last two games. At least we have Amartey ready to go and signed as a reward for that good form. It’s an interesting call I’m probably in the Reid camp but fair to call for the swap.

Yeah, look, I've talked about this before but the reason why I'm never going to be a coach is because, in my heart of hearts, I know I would drop 6 players for the next game. Even if team continuity is more important, I still would like to see Campbell, McDonald, Amartey, Warner, McLean, and Melican play a few games before the end of the year. Not a smart move, but I just want to see how they slot in.

Think everyone would but bit late for that at rd 22. Got to be looking for your best line up in the next 2 weeks going into finals. Warner does need to be in this week.

In current form he is a witches hat and should not be going on next year let alone next week. On his form before injured he is exactly what you say a link up marking option that helps with the flow of our attacking offence.

Don’t really share that view of a witches hat. He was ok not brilliant in his first two matches back and was poor against St Kilda IMO along with the reminder of the team give or take a few.

The kicks for goal are deflating. It’s a long time away from round 1 where he kicked some incredible goals.

I feel that. It's just not necessary though. Their development won't be hindered if they don't get a few more games under their belt. You could say the same about a few others. I'd have loved to have seen Gould break through and make a senior appearance this year, but he hasn't earned it. I'd love for Stephens to get a continued run at it at senior level, but he showed he is not up to the level atm. I think it feels wrong for Rowbottom to not be part of that young brigade experiencing their first final as he deserves it as much as any of them, but in his current shape he would not make the team better.

Keeping all of these guys and the kids you mentioned in the VFL will ultimately give them a greater motivation to want to do better and get more out of themselves next year.

I would drop 6 players as well, but not because of performances, but rather because I want to get any player with any niggling injury or any sore player a few weeks rest before the finals.

FWIW - AFL Site 'In The Mix' suggests Mills and Campbell for Wicks and Stephens, Wicks to sub. Warner (who I think may have 1 less scratch match under the belt than Campbell) is close, but no cigar. Though personally, if we think Chad could do upwards of 70% TOG, with Mills back, I'd just bring him in and split his time between mids and fwd line (with Rowy out).

In the mix, R22: Big guns set to return, but who's in the firing line? - https://www.afl.com.au/news/662816
