Round 3 summary by Eth

Leading into Round 3 we had the eventual end-of-season top three all undefeated in the Southern Dragons, the Mount Buller Demons and the Baghdad Bombers, all winning their first two matches of the season, and all with strong percentages, and that trend was somewhat maintained through the round.

The Bombers battled the Roys at Abdu Prison in what was initially a tight and tense contest. Freakie’s third goal straight after half time brought the margin as close as four points but the Bombers always held the edge, with the Roys eventually tiring and falling by 46 points.

Bomber ThePuppetMaster turned to mastering the midfield with a strong 30 disposals and capped it off with two goals, as did teammate Shadow Man with 23 disposals, two goals and an impressive nine tackles. For the Roys, Fred battled hard on his way to 25 disposals and a goal while Broken kicked two playing an important hand through the centre.

The Furies travelled up to Mount Buller to take on the Dees and ended up with the four points in their first win and Mount Buller’s first loss. The scores were level at half time but the Fighting Furies ran away in the last to post a 33-point victory.

There was a variety of imposing performances from the Furies but one of the best was fightingfury_88 who dominated with 28 disposals, repeatedly pumping it forward. tigland also played very well in the ruck and around the ground. Gus was a lone figure for Mount Buller with 31 disposals and two goals as the standout Dee while Deddy and EBIAC provided strong support with plenty of the footy and an impact on the scoreboard.

The Dragons asserted their place up high on the ladder with a comfortable win over the Wonders by 46 points. West Coast were held goalless to quarter time and although their midfield wasn’t disappointing by any means, the Dragons had the class going forward to score with more regularity and the solid defence to stop it going the other way.

The Dragons had no real standouts with a team contribution, although RoaringUniLions’ five goals from the forward pocket and Frothies Mcveigh’s four proved vital. WishinAintGettin also posted two from the midfield amongst an eye-catching 19 disposals. Shallow was the Wonders’ best, tallying fourteen hitouts, 21 disposals and a goal.

The Geelong Gumbies hosted the East Side Hawks at the House of Gumby and in almost a one-quarter performance won somewhat comfortably by 23 points to keep East Side winless. They kicked seven goals to one in the first and although the form wasn’t maintained it was enough to see out a victory for Geelong.

winty was the best forward on the ground, but an inaccurate 2.6 would have left him disappointed, but he couldn’t have done it without the forward-with-one-different-letter Ninty who recorded 19 disposals, nine marks and a goal across half-forward. Claypigeon’s contested work was arguably their best out of a host of strong performances in the Gumbies’ midfield. Kerrby and boncer34 contested well against them for the Hawks with 20 disposals each, while Dagless was good pushing forward.

WAG and EBIAC have come out of the blocks early with Clay and Tigland not far behind. EBIAC's melt down may rob him of a Mobb medal. Sadly we'll never know.

Loopy's learnt brilliantly off the master. Rigs the sim to get his team the Premiership, rigs the Frankston Rover award and then rigs it so he gets votes in games.

All class :thumbsu:

Nice round review Eth.

Round 4 by IMS

With the SFA S14 season well and truly underway, we moved into Round 4 with a clear picture of the season starting to take shape.

Roys FC Vs Geelong Gumbies

Roys FC 9.22 (76) defeated Geelong Gumbies 11.7 (73)

Both sides entered this game looking to establish themselves as finals contenders in S14. The Roys were yet to open their account for the season, while the Gumbies had won 2 of their first 3. A loss to the Roys would see them slip well behind the pack, while a win would put them amongst the contenders.
The much vaunted match up of St Fly and Reardo ended a fizzer after Reardo was dragged out of the ruck in the opening minutes of the game and pushed to CHB in a move that puzzled the pundits and forced Reardo to show real frustration at coach Mobbs. While St Fly had a solid game in the ruck for the Gumbies. The big names in both line up's were why the crowd were there and most didn't disappoint. Gumbies skipper peterss racked up 21 disposals and 7 marks on the wing, while Lion Cub racked up 23 disposals and 5 marks on the opposite wing. Star Full Forward winty booted 3 goals for the Gumbies.
For the Roys, it was Fat Pizza on the wing who led the way picking up 21 disposals and 8 marks, Broken in the middle with 23 disposals, while Fred had 19 disposals and an astonishing 9 tackles. Full Forward Freakie wore the wrong sized boots and it showed, he kicked 2 goals 8 for the day and was a major reason for the Roys inaccuracy. But it was Fatty Lumpkin on the Half Forward line that was the major difference on the day. He has 20 disposals, 6 marks, 2 tackles and kicked 5 goals 1 to lead the Roys to victory.

West Coast Wonders Vs Fighting Furies

West Coast Wonders 9.10 (64) lost to Fighting Furies 10.14 (74)

The reigning Premier Wonders entered this game needing a win to steady the ship after the ruours of the previous week accusing the squad of having a Premiership hangover and J3V disease. The Furies had won their first game of the season in Round 3, breathing relief through the club after avoiding a repeat of their start to S13.
Both sides had several big names ready to make an impact, unfortunately, this game was fairly ordinary. At times, it seemed that no one wanted to be there and boring hilarity ensued, no player really wanted to put their stamp on the contest.
For the Wonders, Marklar was solid picking up 18 disposals and 7 tackles, while Duggan had 18 disposals and 7 marks. Postman Pav led the stat count with 28 disposals, but all in all, the Wonders stars were still in party mode from S13 and generally pretty flat.
The Furies simply had better performers on the day which led them to the victory. Fumbles kicked 2.6 up forward but proved elusive enough to provide several opportunities, tigland dominated the ruck contest and had 25 possessions to boot, but it was Spudregas who led the way at CHB, with 25 possessions, 4 marks and 4 tackles, his solid performance on Wonders star Demon Jim was one of the main reasons for the Furies big win.

East Side Hawks Vs Mt Buller Demons

East Side Hawks 10.18 (78) lost to Mount Buller Demons 15.11 (101)

The Hawks entered this game on the back of a horror start to the season. Win-less and penalized, the Hawks were looking to bounce back. The Demons had started the season pretty well and were looking a finals chance early.
There was much bitterness heading into this game. The Demons had spent much of the lead up surprising the SFA world by whining, bitching and complaining about the Hawks off season recruiting, but were winning games, which was a positive. The Hawks however were looking long term, with many new players on the list, this game was just one in a series of games to establish the new list and implement a solid game plan.
The Demons were able to continue the solid early season form with a great spread of contributions across the field, no real standout performer, but plenty of contributors. Soon to be Skipper Juggs booted 5.2 up forward, while soon to be Ex-Skipper EBIAC was the shining light in the middle, picking up 27 disposals and 5 tackles. Logger had a great battle with Hawks recruit Plugg3r, keeping him to 3.5 while picking up 16 disposals and 8 marks himself.
The Hawks had standout contributors, but not enough across the board. Tarks had 19 disposals and an amazing 11 tackles, Harps had 27 disposals on the wing, while IMS had 25 disposals and 9 tackles through the middle of the ground. But in the end, disappointing kicking and lack of pressure in the defensive half would see the Demons gain the upper hand and the strong win.

Southern Dragons Vs Baghdad Bombers

Southern Dragons 14.14 (98) defeated Baghdad Bombers 13.11 (89)

The Match of the Round in Rd 4 did not disappoint. The only two remaining undefeated sides did battle for top spot on the ladder. These two sides also showcased several of the Mobbs Medal favorites in early betting. Loopy and beez from the Bombers and Ljp and WAG from the Dragons.
The Bombers were primed for an attack at the Dragons but possibly went a little early. Old Mav was demolished by Frothies, but Frothies inaccuracy put pressure on his teammates, he booted 4.8 for the day, the Bombers stars weren't shining through the midfield either. Both loopy and beez struggled to have an impact, although loopy managed 20 possessions for the game. ThePuppetMaster was solid on one wing, 25 disposals and 5 marks, while saintkildaman was excellent in the middle for the Bombers, his 21 disposals and 9 tackles leading the way. The best match up of the day was Shadow Man and Easty, Shadow Man with 24 possessions for the Bombers. Matt121 booted 4.2 for the losers while Full Forward Gee Dub contributed with 3.1.
The Dragons continued their undefeated run in style, led by Ljp once again on the wing with 20 disposals and 5 marks, alex_is_on_fire with 22 disposals and 6 marks and Gibbsy with 20 disposals and 5 marks. But it was WAG who was most impressive in leading the Dragons to victory, his 23 disposals and 9 tackles ensuring the Dragons put on enough midfield pressure to hold on for the win.
