I am a huge fan of Sweeney. He looks very promising, seeing as we got him with our final pick of the 05 draft. He led the Scorpions goalkicking last year and always looks dangerous when forward for Casey. But tonight I thought that he, like everyone else, played too far away from goals. Ross may have struggled with the injuries and looked for players to get involved up the ground but he is naturally a deep forward player. Milne, Gehrig and Sweeney all deep could be fruitful for us when we get our players back and are firing on all cylinders because Milne and Gehrig create goals when the opportunities are given to them, and I believe that Sweeney is another in that mould.

Blake on the other hand is a disgrace. He is slower than a month of sundays and can't kick or mark. Also has the worst footy brain of anyone I have ever seen. Was smashed while on Goodes last week and was relieved after a very ordinary display early on. He has exceptional fitness but this is useless if he cannot keep up with his opponents. Just a joke of a player and doesn't deserve a spot on the list let alone in the team every week. Matthew Capuano was better than Jason Blake and hopefully Blake gets the same result. Is an out and out passenger of the highest order.

I was going to post the same thing about Blake....

The only thing that Blake has is a huge engine, thats it. He can run all day.

Thats it.

No skills whats so ever.

In a game last night, he was a turnover, just waiting to happen.

I like sundays. They are relaxing. And a month's worth ould be better than work. Agree with your post though.

Nullified Hodge last night and killed Goodes the week before. If he was adisgrace would he be in our best 22?

Idiots, your not supporters.

Players like Blake need to go. I am a die hard Sainta, do not appreciate my allegence being called to question by you.

I guess you are right, I am not a supporter, I am family and a financier.

the saints will be not only a good team soon but a geat team.
They are like a good wine...they will all get better with age.
Great bunch of guys I think will go along way

Finally some sense on this forum. ChrisL i get the feeling you dont think much of Attard and Gwilt also.

For what its worth I think that Jason Blake has been terrific this year.

From my seat high up in the Olympic Stand last night, I was really impressed by the amount of hard running he did, as well as his use of the footy.

He seems to keep his feet a lot more than he did in the past as well. Surely he still has a place in our best 22.

haha i dont think he has ever had a place in our 'best 22' .. but at no stage have we had our best 22 in the last 3 years

I would rather see Blakes opponent rack up 50 possessions, then see him stuff up simple disposels 8 times in a game....

Remember, Each and every one of Blake possessions should be totalled to the player he "apparently" nulified.

I totally agree with you mate. He totally butchers the ball when he gets it. In fact, it was even more frustrating last night because he actually got into space near the forward 50 on a few occasions only for his disposal/decision-making to totally let him down.

Disposal by foot is absolutely critical in Ross Lyon's methodical game plan.

I really appreciate that Blakey is a terrific when it comes to endeavour but unfortunately in the modern game you can't get away with not being able to kick the ball. The worst thing is he's not the only one...Rix is a terrible kick too.

Quickly on Sweeney - he looked promising as a medium-size forward. We desparately need a medium forward to take some pressure of Rooey and GTrain.

Yep, only one leading at all in the last quarter.

Took what 7 marks and 2 contested.

Has been in our best dozen this season.

83% efficiency last night with his possessions.

:o

Oh my?

Do you seriously believe Attard shouldn't be in our 22? If so that is just so silly. Had 3 goals kicked on him this season. Done his job week in week out.

Gwilt? Up and coming defender. KILLED Barry Hall and was 'ok' on Fevola. Last night he defeated Dixon by a mile.

There's negativity and just plain right stupidity.

I think Attard is one of the finds of the season for us. Gwilt was helped by free kicks against Hall and wasn't spectacular against Hawthorn although servicable, like Leigh Fisher he got alot of ball across half back in Joel Bowden fashion. I really like Attard but I think Gwilt has a way to go before he is a regular in the backline, but he is young and is showing signs of improvement.

Mate, whatever you are smoking, could you send a kilo my way? Seriously? Capuano better than Blake? And I suppose you think Gordon Fode was better than Fraser Gehrig?

Really, I wonder about my fellow St Kilda supporters sometimes. When I hear a chorus of what usually sounds like middle aged men scream "Milney, get rid of it" everytime he touches the ball, I feel like asking "Would you rather he just turn it over by foot rather than making an effort to create something?".

Look out the window people: It's 2007. That's why Capuano got the flick, he was a dinosaur.

If we had 22 blokes working as hard as Blake does every week, we wouldn't have been as bad as we were on Saturday night. In the final analysis, Saturday night was more about laziness and poor decision making than skill error.

I agree with Blake - no good. Simple. Sweeney i need a further look, as it's a little bit too early to tell.

yeah its terrific that Blake works his but off, but it doesn't mean squat if he is still no good. seriously the guy is an instant turnover. you can say this is stupidity but every time Blake gets the ball Stkilda supporters i watch the games with along with myself just expect a turnover or a missed target. More often than not this happens.

As for Gwilt when i watched him play on Fevola i couldn't help but notice all he did was hack his arms and hold on to his jumper when he didn't have the ball. I saw him play against Essendon and i found out first hand he has no awareness and a complete lack of football knowledge. That was probably one of the worst individual performances i have seen.

Attard is a tagger who i dont mind having in the team at the moment. He can lock someone down and do a good job, but by no means is he in our best 22 possible from our list, so many more talented players. He has gone ok so far i guess.

As for Sweeney i am a big fan and think that he has a good future, still very young and loads of potential, hopefully he can become a regular over the coming seasons.
