Or just hogged it like he apparently always does in the twos.

He doesn't hog anything .. He's been playing off the backling for the past few days so I can't see how you could make that assumption when he had been kicking no more than 2 or so goals a game.

Just read over on the swans website that Jarred Crouch maybe playing this week in the 2's if he gets through training it wont be a lot of game time but Roo's says he wants to build him over the next month so we might just see him in the 1's sometime during the 2nd half of the season

You dont have to kick goals to not share the ball around ie hog.

I hope not. We don't really have a need for him in the seniors anymore. Jack has taken his place. (and Mattner Mathews place). In any case, I doubt he'd have anywhere near the fitness requirement in four weeks.

Davis being a ball hog is not the issue (I certainly don't think he is one). It's his defensive side of his game - chasing, pressuring, tackling that has come under scrutiny. Clearly, Roos and the coaching staff do no think he has done enough in the many games he has played in the magoos this year.

anyone got the mail on daniel o'keefe?
hes the only player in the top 24 from the 2006 draft to not play a game and there is long list of capable players behind him.
and just another thing on the 2006 draft. we traded pick 33 (jarryd morton) for everitt who will play 3 years max. it seems like a bit to give up for him.

Too late now to worry about that.We will have young ruckman learning howto play in the ruck thanks to Spida, you can even see the improvement in Jolly

Jack has taken Davis's place ,when has Davis played as a tagger? and Mattner has taken Matthews place same thing.Davis is no hog i would rather him taking a shot at goal than a lot of others in our team.

I would much rather have Davis kicking at goal than what I recently saw on offer from Playfair. (Vs St K) The shifting ground under foot may have been an issue. Certainly Playfair is a taller making option but is he applying any more forward pressure than what Davis has been accused of not applying ??

Your kidding right? Hank actually does something out there, makes a contest, tackles, brings the ball down for crumbers, supports the likes of Mickey and Baz, harasses the opposition. Dickie, I'm afraid, does absolutely none of any of those things.
Henry plays for the team, Nick plays for Nick.
Since Hank came into the team I've noticed two distinct changes to our game. Firstly, since he's been in the team Mickey's game has gone up a notch or two and secondly, the midfielders are kicking goals. As someone else said somewhere on here, Henry is to the forwards what LRT is to the defenders.

i guess it comes down to attitude. roos is probaly fed up with him. davis gets a kick up the arse and plays a good season then drops off and then gets another one which doesnt work so he needs a kick twice as hard. which is what i think roos is doin.
no one gets on at sydney with talent alone.

i have noticed him putting on a few blocks when the ball is held up at half forward, giving mickyo the space he needs

I used the word hog and was howled down, maybe a bit harsh, but I agree with the above comment, Davis always looks as though he plays for himself and not the team, always has.

Yes he is normally a good kick at goal, but remember the shockers early in the season, Kangaroos game wasn't it ?
When his accuracy struggles, the coaching staff feel he brings very little else to the team, hello Reserves.

You are entitled to have your favourites and by all means defend them, but be real guys, watch the games through clear not red and white glasses as the selectors do.

Football is a business with no emotion, see where the likes of Davis, Matthews and Crouch are at seasons end. Like the Schneider's and the Dempster's, if your not up to what the club requires, you will be "moved on" no matter how much of a favourite you were.

Not surprised that he has mentioned Matty O'Dwyer, after getting delisted and redrafted to the club, you'd think there's something he wants to prove. Glad for him to stay; has been playing consistently well in the reserves this year.

Margaret, I believe MOD was delisted because he had already two years on the rookie list. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

No, last year was his first year on the rookie list. And in any case, they changed the rules a couple of years ago so that you can now retain one rookie for a 3rd year.

My guess is that they wanted to keep a spot open in case anyone they fancied fell to the rookie draft. With Leo and MickyO on the outside veterans list, there were only four non-NSW rookie spots available and two of those were already committed to Orreal and Murphy. Retaining both Smith and MOD straight out would have meant that they had no live non-NSW picks in the rookie draft. It is not surprising they chose to delist one, and Smith deservedly got the nod, based on the amount of improvement he'd shown during last season. In contrast, O'Dwyer didn't seem to get any better last year. He always had "dash factor" but he butchered the ball regularly, went missing for large expanses of games, and was doing both these as much in September as he was in May.

The club said they were impressed by his efforts during pre-season (after being invited to train with the club) and must have thought he was a better option than anyone new available in the rookie draft. And he's certainly shown a lot of improvement this year over last. He still turns the ball over more often than he'll get away with if he wants to be a senior player but his fundamental kicking does seem to have improved markedly. He is also collecting far more of the ball than last season and his overhead marking skills have improved out of sight. Without access to stats on tackling, smothering etc, my instinct tells me he's improved in that area too.

I still think his work-rate and intensity need to lift a few notches - and he looks fit enough to do so. And despite his improvement I reckon his spot on the list (whether rookie or senior) is far from assured because Bruce and Smith are making strong claims for another year too (and Orreal and Murphy have to be close to guaranteed spots next year because as tall project players there was never any point in recruiting them just for a year. Not to mention that they both address much more dire needs on the list than the shorter players).
