Maybe reserve the illogical rant and melt for the game day thread eh?

Gameday thread was off limits today since channel 7 didn’t show the game live and I don’t have Kayo.

I also don’t think it’s a rant or a melt. I call it as I see it. Forward line looks even more disfunctional than last season and the midfield looks painfully average. Cox looks out of his depth. I hope I’m wrong, but nothing I’ve seen so far inspires confidence.

Ultimately there's no one else. And if they're you're bottom 4, I'd rather them than any other teams bottom 4. Everyone's got them. Some teams even have more than 4, carlton has around 10 of em.
That's the problem though, they're not our bottom four players. They're the players in that next group down after our top 5-6 players. They just too often look like our bottom four players.

It kills us, because when our best aren't at their best, you don't look to the fringe players to get the team over the line, you look to the second tier.

Bet if you got the salary list they are in the tier as you say

Who do people think to the current fit Swans is most likely to kick say 4 goals in a game right now?

Maybe Amartey? Hayward ? Papley

I actually think I have the most faith in Heeney kicking me 4 or 5 if he went forward or Chad .

What happened?

Why has Amartey become a ruck all of a sudden? By the way this has been a hugely shit move. His goal kicking,so beautiful during the pre-season games, is now crap.

Why are we so shit at moving the ball? So our opponents know exactly what we do? If so, it will be a long season

I’d be happy if one player could semi regularly kick 3! Heeney for me.

Corey goes ok too, very solid outing
I thought he and Hanily (as well as Bice for that matter) made some crucial errors obviously, but most pleasing was that none went into their shells over it. They just kept hammering away at contests and trying their hardest. I will throw up on myself if any are dropped next week.

Skill errors and inability to trap the ball below the knees had me almost in tears throughout the game. Concentration? Surely not basic skills but it looked like it.
Blakey drops a gimme mark. Goal. Roberts kickin. Goal. More from many players.
It was almost a competition to see who least wanted to win. And we were BETTER than last week. HUGE game from Jordon. Grundy, Heeney and Rowbottom better. Not enough.
I noted that Cox mentioned McLean, Sheldrick and Ladhams had gotten through the scratch match and made some impact. Interesting.

Combination of a LOT of little things which bundled together create a big problem to the team credit they been in winning positions for both games.

Forward line has gotten worse and is just a cluster, midfield is just banking on Heeney producing unrealistic efforts every week.

Getting nothing from Hayward and Papley who were both super important in 2024.

McCartin experiment i dont know how i feel about it still.

All contributes to 0-2

Effort was there.

Execution just woeful at what seem to be the worst times.

Corey Warner was a big positive for me. Looked right at home playing on a wing / HF. Also liked the look of Bice. I think he could run all day and has a good kick on him. Hanily looks a competitive type. Campbell had one of his better games - his tackling was ferocious today. Most played better this week but I'm really struggling to find anything I'm liking in the games of McInerney, Wilbur and Papley. All three have plenty of talent and experience and should be contributing more. Why we are playing JMac at centre bounce I'll never know. He has always been pretty average at tackling and currently lacks composure under pressure. With Cleary to return, I'd at very least get him out of stoppage and I think he should be under serious consideration for a spell in seconds.

Amartey is lazy/and or unfit. Best is good, but can't run out a game , rucking is no excuse to Kick so poorly

Whatever we do , do not bring Maclean back anytime soon.

Be good if Cleary was back next week.

In: Cleary, Bice
Out: Jmac as sub, Paton

Out of everyone today you drop Jmac? he was ok

Papley florent hayward should all be in the gun

Melican may be hurt .

If he was i'd move Mccartin back.

We need a different second ruck.

None were bad.

But (setting Bice aside), none were particularly good either.

I’m fascinated to see how Cox goes under pressure when it comes to selection. Particularly with no Melican.

I think this is very unfair. He's been neither lazy and / or unfit. The forward / ruck setup Cox is going with is doing Joel no favours.

If going into the ruck for 5 minutes means he is too gassed to compete as a forward then he is struggling for fitness imo.

If that isn't the case then the lack of effort and looking tired after moving back from the ruck is lazy.

He does some flashy stuff then falls asleep.

Barely lead anymore in the second half, he was gassed. Has no tank.

However to maximise what he can do, I'd ditch the second ruck role

McI at centre bounce absolutely baffles me.

Melican out

Move Mccartin back, bring Mclean in he is second ruck/fwd

Drop Papley bring sheldrick cleary whoever in as sub

Florent andHayward get another chance,
maybe try Paton forward
