you all forgotten about one person......JON

but for realz swan has had the better season purely because abletts missed 4-5 games(not sure)

Judd has had a another great year but doesnt rack em up like ablett and swan(thats all the umpires see)gets tagged every week and beats them 9/10

DalSanto is a very good player...could reach the heights of judd and ablett but is not their yet.

swan will win the brownlow.

Ablett - would have to be the best contested player in the game - you could pit him against any player in the competition and he would win the ball 95% of the time and put it into a much better place, whether he is in the forward line or the midfield.

Swan would absolutely smash him in a 1-on-1 contest, whether on the ground or in the air.

Ablett's the better player overall though.
LMFAO - Biased much.

Not looking at the figures I would say Ablett averages more contested possessions a game. Also whenever Ablett's one out with his opponent he always marks the ball and rarely gets spoiled. In the packs Ablett is never brought to ground when tackled by his opponents, and is miles ahead of Swan in being able to get the ball out from heavy traffic.

Ablett actually averages more possessions than Swan: 34.1 to 32.8. But numbers only tell half the story. I still reckon Ablett's been the better player across the season.

This is right

Ablett has had 219 kicks and 360 handballs in 17 games at 34.1
Swan has had 374 Kicks and 283 handballs in 20 games at 32.8

Ablett not enough i50s or goal assists.

Most of his goal assists have come from when he's playing in the forward line. Swan kicks well to his forwards and sets them up for goals.

Ablett gets a lot of his contested possessions with little 1-2 handballs. That's not a troll, it's just how it is. Swan usually just gets the ball and offloads it without receiving it back for another possession.

Swan also has a higher kick to handball ratio. Probably more metres gained, etc. Leading assist player in the comp. What else do you want? He's the best this year.

Yes it is Podgey. Anything Ablett related from you is a troll.

Marking contest? Swan would SMASH Ablett.

No, these are just facts. Some of which have been acknowledged.

Another fact is that Ablett doesn't get the best tagger. He got Kieren Jack on the weekend. Dane Swan got Daniel Jackson.

Depends on the week. Sometimes Ablett gets the hard tag, sometimes the hard tag goes to Selwood. Same goes for Swan. Opposition teams sometimes choose to put the hard tag on Didak instead of Swan.

You must have missed the bit where I said 1-on-1 (i.e. not in a pack). And the bit where I, being biased and all, said Ablett was the better player overall.

Perhaps you should work a bit on your reading comprehension.

Unless I'm forgetting someone, I'd argue Dane Swan is the best one-on-one midfielder probably since Voss. Maybe Ricciuto/Buckley, but Swan doesn't have the hulking build those guys did. When it comes down to packs though, Ablett/Judd etc...are miles in front.

Maybe at the beginning of the year when Swan didn't have a profile. Now that he's getting acknowledged, he's getting the hard tag every week.

Nah he dosen't get the best tagger. So who are - Adam Selwood, Aaron Joseph, Clinton Jones, Robert Shirley etc, etc...

before that Sydney game last week everyone in the media was talking Kieren Jack up as one of the in form taggers in the comp.

Also it's a common perception amongst the coaches that since 2008 it's more effective to use the best tagger on Selwood or Bartel, as they are more likely to be shut down than Ablett is. Teams strategies are to generally throw a more attacking player on Ablett & try to hurt him the other way.

Three of those four beat him. That's the point I guess. Whenever he gets a decent tag, he doesn't do as well. Dane Swan is the best midfielder in the comp, all while dealing with the heavy tags.

Even Cousins got 19 disposals in 3 quarters on him. He's a good young tagger, but he's not Sydney's No.1

Regardless of what the thinking among Geelong supporters is, the facts are that Ablett's performances are without getting the best tagger. This has to be taken into account.

Ablett in his recent article pointed out he wasn't happy with his work rate the last few weeks or so, and admited he needed to get get his contested possessions & clearances up. The fact he struggled on Joseph & Shirley was more about his attitude in the past month than not being able to cop a tag.

Besides Ablett Gave Shirley an absolute bath at the start of the year when he was in form, and against Selwood he was BOG round 11.

And against Shirley the first time, the Shirley played very loose on him, Jared Petrenko had him half the time, etc.

There are always excuses you can make. The facts are that when he gets a good tag, he's not as good.

Shirley had him the first quarter when he got smashed. Then Craig put Petrenko on him, the same result.

It seems it's only a fact when you point it out.

I wish there wasn't all these online stats websites, every single poll is littered with pissing contests on who gets a higher number of something.

They are facts. He averages less possession with a decent tag. Shirley may have lost his first contest, but it was his first game back. But I'll count the 1st Shirley game too, because there are always excuses. The facts are that Ablett averages under 30 for games with a hard tag.

I can only account for games that I have watched personally.

Shirley 46
Shirley 21
Joseph 24
Jones 27
McDonald 25

28.6 disposals a game. I'd say that tags are at least marginally effective.

Swan would absolutely smash him in a 1-on-1 contest, whether on the ground or in the air.

Ablett's the better player overall though.

I'd back Ablett in the air, and Swan may get the ball on the ground before Ablett (really depends on who is in best position) but I doubt he'd get away with it without being tackled, whereas Ablett is probably the hardest player in the competition to tackle. He dodges, he weaves, and even when you do get your hands on him his strength through the hips often shakes the would be assailant off.
