I open the News this morning and the first story is:-

Collingwood pins heartbreak on wife:- 'Adam Treloar was left “broken-hearted” by his exit from Collingwood, but the club says it only happened because of his wife'.

Wow.

The poor Club that is Collingwood. It is all her fault. Classy, blaming the wife. As if having a young family isn't stressful enough, the big machine that is Collingwood, is blaming the wife. I feel for Kim Ravaillion, imagine the terrible guilt she may be feeling because the Management of Collingwood blame her.

Of course it has nothing to do with Collingwood back-ending his Contract? And isn't it timely that Eddie removes himself from public radio. He knew it was coming and he didn't want the phones ringing off the hook with the public outrage of how they have treated Adam and his family.

Kim Ravaillion has only signed a 10 month Contract for the Firebirds Netball team - 10 months. This couple are a professional sports couple, they have always been. You don't think they would have discussed the whole scenario out. Which of course, is none of our business. In 10 months, this professional sports woman would be back in Melbourne.

In the end, surprises of all surprises, Adam Treloar is now going to be playing for Western Bulldogs, but don't look now, is a team based in Melbourne.

From all accounts Adam Treloar is heartbroken to leave the Club he loves but how could you possibly play for a Club that has treated you and your family so abominably.

Best of luck to you both, Adam Treloar and Kim Ravaillion in your chosen careers and I will be watching with great interest.

I also will be watching Dogs v Collingwood games. I know who I will be cheering for.

Buckley, Eddie and Ned should hang their collective heads in shame, the way they have treated loyal servants like Treloar and Stephenson. No spin will soften the blow or change the fact Collingwood ****ed up big time.

At some point the truth will come out - probably in about 12 different versions.

But right now I'd guess that the Pies are headed for some deep problems. How to crush culture and trust in one easy swoop.

And lying about it so obviously doesn't help.

I think this is the first time I've seen an AFL club blow themselves up this way. I guess those pesky spreadsheets are sometimes just too hard to work with.

This day was always coming from when Malthouse left. It has been a continual slide from what we can see from the outside.

Fish rots from the head as they say, Eddie will embrace the siege mentality from here I think - bunker down, total snow job, ‘la la la la I can’t hearrrrr you’.

No one in the media can really challenge McGuire himself, due to his standing and influence in TV and Radio - the vast majority of the journalists want to be on the television, or at the very least radio and being off side with Eddie might not be the best career move. We’ll get an acid tongued article from Caroline Wilson obviously, she’ll speak in absolutes, make some grand statements etc but nobody really takes that seriously anyway, they will just say “ooh Caro’s gone for a fair whack ha ha”.

Collingwood start next year well and all is forgiven from the supporters - that is really not that big a deal. They aren’t bailing on the club.

The most damage I think will have been done to player relations - depending on how popular guys like Treloar and Stephenson were. Some reports have suggested Treloar is a popular guy in the group, Stephenson not so much, so will the players move forward with ‘oh well Treloar’s deal was a shocker and Jaiyden was always a bit of a handful’ or will they feel ‘uh I better be careful, they might dump me too’.

That is without the impact on any incoming players....even then, money talks and again, if the success happens on the field then all is forgiven and forgotten.

Rough start to next year and the jungle drums start beating....but we all know that will be for Buckley, not Eddie

I disagree. They were one difficult kick away from winning a flag. The culture looked to be great in 2018 and the players were really playing for Buckley.

Something has gone seriously wrong since then though.

Performance clauses - they kept kicking the can down the road, and it's finally come to a head.
They way they have handled the player exits though has been woeful, and to pretend this is "to get back into the draft" is insulting to football fans who don't buy spin. Pies fans are justifiably angry.

What nonsense.

It is the cult of personality that runs that club. Eddie and his boy Buckley.

They had a premiership team, and have degraded it into impotence.

Lost me, what has performance clauses got to do with this? Seems the club cocked up the spread sheet to me or maybe the problem was a white board being cleaned when the numbers didnt add up.
Lots of people from the Board down should have been across this. The President & the CEO should be the ones accountable to the members,

I've always believed the performance money was effectively the money left over when the contracts were accounted for.

Performance clauses seemed to bump up player contracts (e.g. Phillips), then Treloar's contract was amended (back-ended) to accommodate the performance clauses of other players.
I totally agree it's a screw up and the money should have been left in the cap to cover them... it seems like it wasn't done properly. Then there is how poorly the exits for Stephenson and Treloar were handled which has just poured fuel on the fire.

And there it is, the final nail in Collingwood's coffin:

“The way they went about it kind of hurt,” Treloar told reporters. “I wish I could have finished my career at Collingwood, that’s the honest truth."

“They were adamant that they had to move me on ... they genuinely thought I wasn’t going to manage being away from my family.”

Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley had previously denied a report claiming he called Treloar and told him senior Collingwood players no longer wanted him at the club. However, Treloar confirmed that conversation, but said he didn’t believe it and suggested the Magpies were saying anything they could to make him leave.

“That was told to me in no uncertain way. That hurt,” Treloar said. “To be told that when I don’t think that’s the truth ... that hurts.”

“I think anything was going to be said to move me on.”

The way Collingwood used Treloar's mental health battle in this was rather disgusting too. They tried to make it seem like they were doing him a favour trying to ship him offl and that clearly Treloar did not know what was in his own best interest, when in reality everything Collingwood did was purely for Collingwood. Not once did Buckley actually consider Treloar's mental health, and I suspect Buckley really does not care about Treloar's battle with depression.
