Which pirate captain are you referring to? Don't recall any unresolved characters.
The pirate captain they were chasing all season? Whose ship they stole. Who we see in one transmission with the image scrambled so we couldn't see his face which seemed a deliberate story choice.

Tak Rennod? (Donner spelled backwards - Richard Donner directed Goonies)
I thought he was just a plot device, not a character that needed further exploration.
Maybe season 2 will go into it more. Didn't seem odd to me that he wasn't expanded on.

Wasn't he killed? I thought that was the body with the knife in it? There was a mutiny on board.

Guess if he wasn't going to be anyone it didn't really make sense to obscure his appearance in the recording they found. That felt deliberate.

I took the captain as nothing more than a plot device, nobody in the show actually cared, so neither should we.

Jod regularly talked about him and they spent half the show trying to figure out how he found At-Achrin. I'm just confused that they obscured his appearance for seemingly no reason.

They talked about him and what he did but nobody seemed to have any interest in actually finding him himself.

Maybe something as simple as they don't actually know what they wanted him to look like, maybe saved some dollars on actor likeness, what it was it never struck me as important.

I really doubt that's it.

I suspect the actual reason is they didn't see it as necessary to the plot but didn't want to commit themselves to anything in case they wanted to use him for a plot for S2 with Jod.

Maybe it was something they considered exploring, but abandoned. Like the Jedi who trained Jod. Although I believe her scenes were actually shot, just not used.
