I heard this call on AA and I couldn't believe my ears. F'ckin seriously? It sounded like some old biddy who completely lost her shit and was spewing spittle across the room. And I quote - " One last thing , Port has to get rid of that black and white jumper, they think they are invincible in it and it makes them go ten times harder, and they don't realise how much grief it causes everyone but them ".
Correct me if I'm wrong, but with a top two spot on the line and two home finals at stake in a very even season, my old player's logic tells me that anyone - let alone a very proud club with a winning tradition - is going to go that bit harder?
Of course the jumper adds another layer of significance as I can attest as a player of 12 years at Werribee, wearing various designs of black and gold ( and red in the early years ), it never really meant as much to me as when I finished up there and went back to my roots and pulled on the red white and blue guernsey of Queenscliff. History and identity with their guernsey and its' tradition is in any players DNA. But then again, as the Crows are a confected bastard child, that's a concept they wouldn't understand, let alone respect.
What the heck is wrong with these people? Why can't they just get over what happened in 1990 and move on? Rivalries between clubs in sport is commonplace, and rightfully so, but this is bordering on insanity at worst and completely irrational at best.
If it was based on the similar reason as the Collingwood / Carlton rivalry - the silvertails vs the working class - that would be fair enough. But this crap about guernseys, treason, injunctions and so on is just completely moronic.

This reminds me of my days in Melbourne when I used to go with a group of friends who were Port supporters to Bells Hotel to watch their games and have a meal and a few jars when Geelong weren't playing. (Ironically, they introduced me to the place on the Friday night you flogged us for your first ever win.. ) I watched several Showdowns there, mostly Port wins as it was when you guys really had them by the balls early on. The hotels owner used to put on a specific Showdown function in the front bar and loads of Chardonnay swillers also rocked up. It was an absolute crack up when Port won and the Port supporters used to stand up and belt out the song, and follow it up with the Magpies song. Seriously, the venom and vitriol they spewed out upon hearing the Magpies song was pathetic. They screeched like banshees. You'd think someone had just killed their kids. What a bunch of cry babies.

Got to be the biggest sook & entitled football supporters in the league. Happy to talk footy on 2 conditions - 1. Crows are winning, 2. Port are losing. Otherwise it's a declaration that I'm not talking about football. With a few exceptions, most Crows supporters think identically which is just so boring.

I'll talk footy anytime, anywhere irrespective of how Port are doing. But I'm a football fan first & then a devoted Port supporter second, coz of family history. The Afl however, with their blatant bias & Ken (everyone's friend & father) have challenged my love of both over the last 10 years.

And looking at the dumb arse sycophants in crow beanies getting in on the circle jerk in that video made me feel a wee bit sorry for Nicksy. (don't worry I got over it pretty quickly).

Agree with the 'if you do not want to defend, pack your bags'. Was really disappointed with DBJ in the Showdown. 2 Crows players free on the wing & he looked over & decided he couldn't be ar*ed to chase back & cover one of them. Since his B&F win he's become very selective at when he chooses to work. I really hate players like that. He could be a much better contributor to our team but is lazy. Don't respect him at all & I know he kicks goals but I expect him to leave the field spent every game, not just the occasional game.

Didn't mind Godden, Nicks & Sloane in that. Good balance of messages. Would like Sloane as an assistant coach.
