The case of a US sheriff accused of fatally shooting a judge in his courthouse chambers has made international headlines.

A motive for the alleged murder of Judge Kevin Mullins remains unclear.

District Judge Kevin Mullins and Sheriff Shawn "Mickey" Stines had reportedly been arguing at the Letcher County courthouse in Whitesburg, Kentucky, shortly before shots rang out on the second floor at 2:55pm.

Nobody seems to know what they were arguing about.

Patty Wood said she had been close friends with him and his family for years.

"You couldn't find a better person on the face of the earth than Mickey Stines," she said.

"I don't know what happened.

"I know Mickey's character and I know there had to be something that did it.

"I just cannot believe that he just went in and shot him for no reason."

Crazy case.

The Sherriff saw something on a cellphone, then shot the judge. Fired a couple of times, then went back it looks like, to fire another and make sure he was dead.

When he was being arrested, Stines allegedly said: “They're trying to k*dnap my wife and kid.”

Judge apparently had the sheriffs daughters phone number in his mobile. Not sure the exact context or the age of the daughter but Jesus this is wild Wild West sort of stuff.

why are fathers so protective of their daughters compared to their sons when it comes to this sort of stuff?
