Marshall Recommits As Umpires Boss

The Southern Football Netball League is delighted to announce that Peter Marshall has recommitted as the League's Director of Umpiring for a further two years.

Meanwhile, Jon Auditore will step aside as the Umpires' boss due to personal commitments, having shared the responsibility with Marshall this year. Auditore assumed the role following Marshall's move to the VAFA at the end of 2018.

A decorated umpire and coach Marshall's reappointment is a great boost for the SFNL, having previously served in the role with distinction between 2016 and 2018. During his first tenure, the number of registered umpires grew 55% to 342.

League General Manager - Operations David Jennings said the SFNL was delighted to have a man of Marshall's calibre recommitment to heading up the umpiring department.

"We are delighted that Marshy has committed his future to the League,” Jennings said.

“Marshy is a leader with a lot of experience that will continue the collaborative work between the League and the SFNLUA.

“The partnership with the SMJFL will continue to grow and will provide a pathway for talented umpires to join the League and go on to the highest levels of football. We are excited about what the future holds for umpiring within the SFNL and we are very lucky to have someone like Marshy driving those initiatives”.

Jennings also thanked the outgoing Auditore for his contribution as Director of Umpiring over the past two years.

“I would like to acknowledge Jonathan for his service to the League over the past two years,” he said.

“Jonathan had the energy and resilience to deliver a quality umpiring program for the betterment of the League and I thank him for those invaluable contributions”.

Despite relinquishing his administrative position, Auditore will not be lost to the league, however, and will continue to umpire SFNL football in 2021.

All divisions will have a bye on the Queen's Birthday weekend (Saturday 12 June), with Division 1 clubs to have an additional bye between Round 14 and Round 15 (Saturday 24 July). This additional bye will allow the Division 1 Grand Final to be played as a standalone game on Saturday 18 September.

The Division 2 Grand Final is scheduled for Saturday 11 September, while Division 3 and Division 4 will play their deciders on the weekend on 4-5 September.
