Seasons Between Premierships for players

Was just randomly thinking today how good the Eagles are going and how if they did win it all this year there would be still quite a few players from their 2006 premiership. 6 years between drinks for those guys so i was wondering how long the longest break between premierships for some players would be.

I suppose Dustin Fletcher played in the 1993 and 2000 so there is 7 years. Any longer that you can think off.

You finished top 4 last year, currently undefeated (albeit against weak opposition) and with the likes of Collingwood and Geelong losing early matches could potentially finish top 2. Big game this week but id say your in the top quarter of teams going round and have a realistic opportunity to go all the way.

Yeah but that's my point, that's a prediction.

Its like people were saying Richmond are gonna have a great year, before they got a chance to play. Richmond weren't looking good, people were just predicting.

Ok So Kevin Bartlett had 13 years with 1067-1980 although he won 5 throughout that period.

Michael Tuck had 15 years from first to last but once again won 7 throughout the period. Suppose with Banfield his longest drought was 10 year from 1996 to 2006

Ok its a prediction but you did finish 4th last year, that's a fact and besides losing LeCras you look very similar placed.

But thats not the point, i think you guys look alright and was curious as to the seasons between flags for players.

Pretty sure that's 913 years :D. I always knew KB was old, but geez, he's been going for a while now.

Obviously played for the Normans

:thumbsu:

Little known fact: the Bayeux Tapestry is actually a record of that year's grand final. If you look carefully, you can indeed see KB.

Haha you know what i accidently typed 1067 and then swear that i went back to correct it. Oops. You know what i mean :D

Brent Harvey and Dustin Fletcher could potentially break Banfield's record if North or Essendon can win a flag in the next 1-3 years. They are also the only 90's premiership players still currently active. After them, next is Brown, Black and maybe Ashley McGrath(?). There are still a couple Port premiership players running around, including Cassisi, the Cornes bros and Brogan.

It looks like the model to do this is to be in a young player in a young premiership side that doesnt capitalise with a successful era, maybe falls away for a while, successfully rebuilds, then wins one a decade down the track. Hawthorn could end up like this, the likes of Birchall could still be around in a decade. Players like LRT, Dempster, Schneider and Beau Waters also won flags whilst relatively young.
Obviously, this is a record that champions like Nick Reiwoldt, Brad Johnson, Matthew Pavlich, etc, dont have a chance at  Or on the flipside, mid-career Cats like Bartel.

Not a current player, but Jason Ball won a flag with the Eagles in 94 and then Sydney in 05 (against the Eagles, ha)

11 years.

Ditto for Wanganeen from 93-04

Might something involving Ess. non-GF premiership of 1924, but couldn't be arsed figuring it out :)

Code:
12 Drew Banfield 1994 - 2006
12 Doug Wade 1963 - 1975
11 Jason Ball 1994 - 2005
11 Gavin Wanganeen 1993 - 2004
11 Fred Baring 1912 - 1923
10 Billy Griffith 1901 - 1911
10 Barry Davis 1965 - 1975

Yes, that seems to be how it works for an individual player (be the sole survivour spanning two eras). What I'd find more impressive is a core group doing it.

The baby bombers did it in '93 and '00 (with Misiti, Hird, Fletch, Long, Mercuri ect) for a 7 year gap.

Like you say there is a decent some Hawthorn players in being part of a premiership in say 2016 for a similar gap (Buddy, Roughead, Birchall, Rioli, Young, maybe Hodge and Gilham).

And as the OP states if West Coast were to do it this year or next year Cox, Glass, Kerr, Embley, Lynch and others would have been a pretty big part of two separate premiership assaults.
