I've been researching history on vices, which is why I keep doing them, came across a 1915 engineering catalogue full of lathes, mainly belt driven but also one with a sewing machine treadle.

Treadle drive was standard in home workshops and small businesses until the 1920s-30s when small electric motors became more common.

Even then, a "well-equipped" workshop would have one electric motor driving an overhead lineshaft pulley system, with belts to individual machines.



A flat leather belt would transmit power to the lathe. Flat belts are almost silent with a "tick tick" when the join goes over the pulley every revolution. Speed changing on the fly was simple - just use a lever (or even a stick) on the side of the moving belt to move it to the next position. Many lathes had an extra "loose" pulley at one end of the cone pulley, which allowed you to move the belt into a non-spindle-driving position without stopping and restarting the motor.

2012 to 2016 were my prime euro trucking years.

I used to love driving the promods Iceland map in particular.

I think its in steam workshop. I usually drive a MAN for no reason other than I prefer the cab layout. Been running ETS2 from the days when it was a standalone game back at the end of 2012.
