For the fourth successive season we have a unique grand final pairing. The Dragons and Hawks play off Sunday for Qooty's Holy Grail in the GF/big dance (pronounced phenetically as dyance or dahnce depending on your state of origin)/grandy/final frontier or whatever euphemistic term you have for the final match of a season.

The Dragons have been a very consistent team on-field in season 38 using just 21 players and not losing consecutive matches at any point. Their finish to the home and away season was impressive, winning four of their last five games and surging from 8th to 4th. If it weren't for those pesky penalty points, the Dragons would have finished minor premiers as the only team to win ten home and away matches. It has been the finals that have brought out the Dragons' best form though- belting both the Demons and Warriors enroute to this grand final.
There have been teams to have scored on average more points than the Dragons this season, but few have the same forward depth. No fewer than six players have scored 20+ goals this season with their goal kicking legends, Bonz and Hatchy1992, the standouts combining for 99 goals to date.
EAST SIDE HAWKS, SEASON 38 TO DATE:
SEASON RECORD: 11 wins, 7 losses (106.15%)
FORM (recent first): W W W W L W W W W L W L W L L L W L
POINTS FOR: 1950 (108.33 ave).
POINTS AST: 1837 (102.06 ave)
*Finals matches included.
Like the lyrics of a Katy Perry hit song, the Hawks truly have been hot and cold this season. After a sluggish start to the season, the Hawks were staring down the barrel of another season well outside the eight. Their finish though, what a sight to behold as the Hawks mowed down nearly all before them winning 6 of their last 7 home and away matches to secure a top-four berth in the final round. The confidence and swagger from this winning streak has been put to good effect in finals as the Hawks have in both games had to come from behind at three quarter time to record a narrow win.
The Hawks have for most of the season have been prepared to roll the dice, pairing both some of the league's highest scoring offensively and points conceded defensively. The genesis of the high scoring offence is the engine room which has been gathering stats like no one's business with each of PhenomenalV1, TY24, Callums_Guns and boncer34 each closing in on an astonishing 400 disposals for the season.
LIKELY LINE UPS:
Both teams have remained stable for many weeks now. Question is, will the Dragons be tempted to bring in the green one who was once their skipper?
Teams, don’t forget to get those team sheets in by deadline. (11:59pm WST, 19/12/2024)
May both teams enjoy this week, I'm sure I'm not alone in being very jealous!
