It was 40 degrees here at around 5am this morning

...not the hair bit in your post; the temperature in mine. It was actually around 46 degrees. Not quite as cold as I said.

It actually doesn't get that cold here. There's been a chill in the air a few mornings but most of the days have been great

...except the rain we've had over the last three days. But I don't think we've had 10 days of rain in total since I arrived early in January.

There was snow in the mountains about an hour away a bit over a week ago and some of the mountains within clear sight of my work had snow a couple of times in the first month or so after I arrived, but I don't expect to see any snow over Christmas this year.
I'm volunteering to stay on call this Christmas as all my Australian workmates have families. We'll be here for Christmas in the next two years as well so we might take a trip up north for one of them.
