When I used to umpire cricket games I would always put some water in the stump holes to make it easy to place the stumps into them. It had the additional benefit that the stumps would go cartwheeling when a batsman was bowled. Several of the captains knew what I was doing and would comment how good it looked.Next to my love of knocking the middle stump out drumming is my greatest passion
An interesting thing about Ray Charles is that he could 'click', i.e. use sound to navigate. Bats and dolphins are somewhat better at it but humans without sight can do it reasonable well.Wish I was at that set where they were trying to describe to Ray who he was filming with haha.
Looks like you can sing too which is bloody impressive. No wonder Ray wanted a collab.
Most of the AFL umpires do it well.An interesting thing about Ray Charles is that he could 'click', i.e. use sound to navigate. Bats and dolphins are somewhat better at it but humans without sight can do it reasonable well.
Always wanted to know how a cricket umpire can maintain concentration for such a long time. Not a job for the smart phone generation that’s for sure (including myself!).When I used to umpire cricket games I would always put some water in the stump holes to make it easy to place the stumps into them. It also reduced the amount of complaining from batsman. I mean it is hard to argue with an umpire about a bowled decision when one of the stumps nearly spears the keeper standing ten yards back.
Fascinating stuff thanks for the info. It’s astounding how some people are able to overcome such limitations. Another obvious example is Paralympians. An interesting thing about Ray Charles is that he could 'click', i.e. use sound to navigate. All that needs is a Minion and it's prime Facebook boomer material.
Umpiring is similar to batting. You only concentrate when the ball is 'live'. I had a stance when the ball was live but would change my stance the second the ball was 'dead'.Always wanted to know how a cricket umpire can maintain concentration for such a long time.
