Disgruntled club bosses have identified Port Adelaide president and retired Sunrise host David Koch as an “ideal candidate” to take over as chairman of the AFL commission.
As pressure rises on league chairman Richard Goyder amid the growing Qantas crisis, the embattled airline where he is also chair, multiple AFL clubs have named Koch as a viable option to succeed him.
Koch, 67, has led the Power since October 2012 and hung up the boots as Sunrise co-host after 21 years in April.
“He’s a very decent bloke who you can talk to and most importantly he understands clubs,” one club chief said of Koch on Thursday.
“If the Qantas situation develops to the point where his (Goyder’s) position as chairman became untenable then naturally the focus would shift to his suitability to lead the AFL.”
Well it could help is perhaps…or maybe not. One way to get rid of him though!AFL club bosses tout David Koch as future league chairman as pressure mounts on Richard Goyder

But away from port would be the best option.Dear god the last thing this sport needs is David Koch anywhere, ever.
See im not so sure. You take him from where he can damage port to somewhere he can damage everyone including port and the last shreds of fabric of the game. But away from port would be the best option.
He will be accountable to the other clubs and if he ****s up they will get rid of him, unlike at Port where nobody can remove him.See im not so sure. You take him from where he can damage port to somewhere he can damage everyone including port and the last shreds of fabric of the game.
The AFL appoint our chairman so if Koch is on the AFL commission there is no way Tredrea is getting anywhere near our board let alone chairman.Great for us if he goes. Then Tredders for Prez.
He then will turn the AFL into nerdy fun puff pieces and not elite sports performance.
But AFL will become carbon neutral.
The AFL don't appoint the chairman per se, the board elects someone and the chair has to maintain confidence of the board. The AFL rubber stamps it.The AFL appoint our chairman so if Koch is on the AFL commission there is no way Tredrea is getting anywhere near our board let alone chairman.
Did donna smack him one?Former Sunrise host David Koch has called on regulators to “crack down” on social media platforms that have again run his image in posts to promote suspected scams.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Koch shared a doctored image of himself used by suspected scammers.
The photo showed Kochie with black eyes and a slumped look on his face.
The images were accompanied by a post that read, “This article has spread like wildfire today. Read the full story here.”
The post has a link and a fake headline that read “This is the dark truth behind the incident”.
Re reading the story I only just realised this is a Michael Warner story as is the one linked in the article and I put up the link below, about Goyder's problems at QantasAFL club bosses tout David Koch as future league chairman as pressure mounts on Richard Goyder

I suggest anyone with Twitter keep @ing him asking why he's such a crookFormer Sunrise host David Koch has called on regulators to “crack down” on social media platforms that have again run his image in posts to promote suspected scams.

That all makes perfect sense, until you get to the bit where Koch is touted as a replacement. That's the best option? Seriously?Re reading the story I only just realised this is a Michael Warner story as is the one linked in the article and I put up the link below, about Goyder's problems at Qantas
There were plenty of AFL insiders who talked to Warner for his The Boys Club book, but were too scared to go public with their criticism, so no doubt he is talking to insiders who are pissed off with Goyder, Gil and others at the AFL for their slothfulness. Great use of the word torpor by Warner to describe taking more than 2 years and no replacements for 2 commissioners, Gil's replacement saga an extended long play retirement tour, the CBA still not finished when it ran out 31st October last year and the women don't have one yet, no further movement on Tassie stadium, the drawn out Hawthorn racism saga, etc.
Crisis engulfing Qantas under Richard Goyder’s chairmanship highlights desperate need for change at the AFL
Anyone searching for clues over the torpor that has engulfed AFL House should look no further than the crisis unfolding at Qantas and ask what or who is the common denominator?
That all makes perfect sense, until you get to the bit where Koch is touted as a replacement. That's the best option? Seriously?
"A desperate need for change". Yep, that sounds like us for the last 6 years, if only we could have had someone like Koch to effect it
