The Power meet Richmond at the MCG on Thursday night, with Hinkley describing the Tigers as a "scary proposition".

Lol, already with the excuses.
Does it every time. He's an irriot. Just doesn't learn.

Cahill, make them feel they can run through walls.

Hinkley, make them feel they have a mountain to climb.

This is what happens when you are trying to protect your arse by lowering expectations. That he doesn't see that as potentially demotivating players is a serious flaw. It also contributes to the perception that he is only concerned about his own position.
He's created a mentally fragile playing group who crumple under the slightest weight of expectation so he tries to counter this by downplaying the challenge and providing a safe space for failure. Unfortunately when the whips are cracking this doesn't work and we crash and burn in another PF. In hindsight, it's probably a blessing we haven't made a GF under Hinkley.

You're assuming that Ken will suddenly discover the magic formula for a functional forward line. He hasn't managed it in 10 years at Alberton, so why would he somehow work it out somewhere else?
It wouldn't be because Ken discovered anything. It would probably be forced upon him because he inherited a list that wasn't made up predominantly of halfback flankers and midget key position forwards.

Just imaging for a second Fos or Jack describing an opposition as scary.

Then laugh and laugh.

Then sack Ken.
Particularly an opposition that's not even in the top half of the ladder!

Immediately before the start of the season Hinkley declared that we were still "here" and a chance to win the flag. Now he is saying that playing a team in 10th spot halfway through the season is "scary". Typical loser talk from the master of lowering expectations.

But he can't get away with it on his own - without the club's backing, he'd no longer be at Alberton.

On 360 the other night it was either Robbo or King who mentioned that Hinkley’s warned the players this is ‘the old Richmond’.

It’s the perfect table setting.

Win and you look like a miracle-worker triumphing against the odds.

Lose and it’s a tough competition. We knew it’d be a challenge and we never shy away from that. Some pleasing moments, but we need to work harder for longer.

Hinkley is the biggest loser! **** me... He is useless...

Gee its just that kind of competition though isn't it?

Hinkley lifetime record against the Suns, Saints and Roos: 29-3

If either of these three earn a wildcard into our home Prelim I reckon a shout… maybe

And for one of those three, the opposition needed historically accurate goal kicking.

You just gave the Hinkley happy clappers and excuse to extend his contract. He turned around our losing record against the roos after we couldn't beat them in the 90's and early 00's.

WhO eLsE wOuLd YoU GeT? getting another fair run on cuckbook.

can’t say that it hasn’t worked.

They're out there.

Seeing the Brits use a hologram of a young Betty Windsor from 1952 in her Platinum Jubilee parade got me thinking why can't we use a hologram of Fos Williams to coach Ports. Would have to do a better job than old mate Hinkles.
I dunno he might hurt Boak and Chuck's feelings.

Future home PF post-match presser: "Yeah, it's fair to say we didn't see it coming, especially getting jumped like that in the first quarter. All credit to Dewy who got his boys up and about on the night. We'll take some time during the off season to reflect on what's just happened as now's not the right time. While this loss burns in the guts, being 29-4 against some of the younger and hungrier teams in the comp tells us we're on the right track."

The message from Longmuir to Freo boys at half time vs Melbourne at the G

"We just knew we were sort of playing into their hands a little bit, we got the message to try and start shifting the ball out to the open side and opening up space through the corridor and going a bit more direct."

Ken: "Phoaw, those Tigers at the G, wow. Work hard boys"

Traditionally we capitulate under the weight of any sort of expectation. Hinkley's grand plan has not been to steel the group and teach them to carry that expectation as a point of pride, but to instead downplay expectation at every opportunity. We've never been ruthless under Ken (I'd argue ever in the AFL), even at our peak. This is why.

The club's mental fragility pre-dates Hinkley's reign but he has done nothing to improve it and has in actual fact probably made it worse, which is quite some achievement.
