yeah they are right - don’t know why people don’t like Cornes I think he is honest and usually on the money

Roos would never come back I don’t reckon but we probably need to clear out most of our coaching staff And move on some players

im still a bit torn on the quality of our list - I keep thinking it could be top 8 / top 4 maybe, but if they have become selfish dock heads as suggested maybe it can’t be turned around
 
How many times over the last 10 years has MFC played a bottom of the ladder team that on form has no chance of beating us and we are the mugs that hand them a win. Adelaide game is a risk because we are MFC . If we lose against Adel and North Goodwin has to go. I am not a fan of Richardson but give him the job if our finances don’t allow us to secure say Lyon, Clarkson etc. Goodwin has had his chances and he is obviously out of his depth.

The soft cap is 6 million next year. Paying goody out is gonna be ~ million or more. We can't afford to sack him

Yeah, because Pert is a f@@kwit and gave Goodwin the extension. Don’t pay out Goodwin, he can stay on the payroll and wash the jumpers. Richardson can coach at no extra cost . Could Richardson be any worse than Goodwin?

Course he could. He's the director of coaching currently and nothing's changed

Do we know if there is a clause that allows us to terminate him based on performance? Or did Pert just blow his stack after seeing us make a PF and give him a nice carefree contract?

Id really hope there is a get out for us somehow in all of this.

Well I think someone was stupid enough. There seems to be a lot of talk around our finances and inability to pay him out so I am king of concerned here.

Anyway, it is what it is, one week at a time boys, credit where credits due, it’s just noise, it’s a journey, a loss to Adelaide or North is a learning. We have to lose one to win one lads, stick fat.

I say bring Bartlett in to coach. At least he was honest.

I'll bet there's no performance clause in Goodwin's contract. His extension came from the same brain-dead school of marketing BS that thinks that stability/predictability leads to achievement. In fact, there's more evidence that lack of urgency and complacency is far more detrimental to performance than unpredictability. What's needed is innovation and relentless commitment to the task - something we conspicuously lack. Goodwin needed to be busting his ass to innovate and prove himself, not be rewarded with a fat pay packet that takes pressure off him for 3 extra years. Talk about making a guy feel satisfied with himself. It simply didn't occur to Pert that Goodwin might fall off a cliff after 2018. He assumed it was an upward trajectory from a young and improving side. It proved to be incorrect. You live, and never learn...
 
I don't understand the actions of contracting coaches so long before their contracts end, and for so long, without proper exit clauses. Brenton Sanderson all over again here (when he was fired at Adelaide twelve months after an extension). Head Coaches move between clubs so rarely, I would suggest that if your Head Coach does leave for another Club that is indicative of (a) his own cultural standards not matching what he demands of the players or (b) as an employer you've not provided him with an acceptable environment to succeed.

The last time a coach was poached was what Ross Lyon to Freo in 2011? And that was after St.Kilda dragged their feet in the contract talks for months prior.

He also coached StKilda to 2 HFs and won the mclellan trophy.
Goody got r*ped in a prelim. You could get Brad Scott for less and he's achieved alot more.

I think the media has sucked the gumption out of a lot of clubs with how they death-ride clubs when their coach is out of contract. Days where coaches are sacked must be consistently the most lucrative news cycles of the season.

This would be the sole reason. Media circle like sharks when a coach is close to out of contract. I'm guessing we wanted to avoid a media circus. Ridiculous. I would have thought performance was top of the list as to why you'd extend a contract. Getting pumped in a prelim should bring caution not celebration. But that's Melbourne for ya..

They could have signed him to the end of 2020 and kept the sharks away.
 
Goodwin’s presser today was more of the same. “Disappointing”, “Own it” “Not acceptable”. All he gave us was we won’t play 3 talls and TMac out. Asked whether TMac could go to the backline and Goodwin straight out said no he is a forward. WTF, where is the flexibility and the willingness to try something. He didn’t say much about the midfield, f@@k me, surely he can give us something other than Oliver is a “quality player”. Goodwin seems like he wants to be the players’ best mate ..... has he ever raised his voice at anyone or do the players just think he is a pussy and an easy touch?

I've thought for a while he is too happy being best mates with the players and not applying actual pressure on them for spots.
 
One thing is for sure, TMAC played much better when he was negotiating his contract. Pretty ****ing damning on his buy-in to club success. I’m happy for him to play maggoos until he realized you are expected to go 100% every week.

This was quite a good post in hindsight, even though we didn't get a lot of injuries in 2020.
