Butler was a no brainer. Although he's not quite ready, I'm perplexed with the dropping of Ramsden. Reckon he would straighten us up against North & would have been a show against Nuyon. Can't count on Chol whatsoever. He's as reliable as the Melbourne weather. Ward should've stayed & C Macdonald gone. So many selections have been baffling this year.

Ward looking more and more like a bust sadly. To go along with DGB’s issues, we need the Mackenzie and Watson picks to work out desperately.

2 and a bit seasons into his career. 35 games. Reckon there's a long way to go before you can say that. Not doing what he's asked, so back to Box Hill to fix it and re-earn selection. It happens.

I think he's a keeper.

Maybe Hardwick will spend more time playing forward this week? It looks like we will be going in with limited options.

Even then Dimma is 185cm and was shut down comprehensively by Ballard last week. So our "talls" are Chol, Gunston & Dimma.

Chol is inconsistent as the main man but has been good as the second/third tall. Will have to both be the main man and ruck now.

Gunston, even at VFL level, isn't moving that well and has always been a lead player. Our mids struggle to hit that lead. Now, he'll be our first tall at times because Meeky will likely rest off the bench.

Then when the ball hits the ground we have Moore, Ginnivan, Maginness & CMac. Hardly a mosquito fleet.

Feels like no height or speed unless we play someone like Weddle forward which we haven't done ever. Even the two marks he took against Melbourne were against Van Rooyen.

North may be the only team we get away with this.

Yep agree totally.

So much pressure on Chol to have a huge game as a sole KPF.

Ginnivan, Moore, MacDonald + Hardwick (?), Maginess (?) are going to have to be working in overdrive to get to ground balls and applying pressure.

Serong can go to the backline allowing Weddle to go forward. Forward line of Chol, Gunston, Weddle, Hardwick, Ginnivan and Moore. Macdonald to roll through there as part of the rotations.

Ramsden, Butler and Ward the three dropped.

Don’t agree with Ramsden decision. Effectively down a tall forward when we should be exposing their backline.

Dropping Ramsden is a bit disappointing. Our forwards didn't really get much of a go at it given how insipid our midfield was. Brining in Gunston alongside Ramsden would have been a great move to allow Gunners to provide some on field coaching and instruction for the kid.

Butler probably being played out of position but his output was a little disappointing. Think he'll find his way back into the side.

Ward stiff, could throw a blanket over a dozen players who were abysmal last weekend. Hope he puts on a big game for Box Hill.

Gunston in... let's hope he provides something. He was slow in his brief outings this year, and has seemed cooked for the past 3 seasons.
He kicked 6 goals in a game last year. Can't recall any Hawks even getting close to that, but perhaps I'm wrong.

Question re selection:

Is Sam making the ultimate decision on final team selections?

Cheers

IMO, Ward was dropped because he was very soft (to put it delicately) last week.
I bet that’s been pointed out to him with some video footage from the game.

Nash is down on form but he’s still doing the inside grunt work and we’re very short of those players.

Hate to say it but Butler is not an AFL standard player. Even in our currently mediocre team, he’s way below par.

It may be a strange thing to say, but even though Morison is regarded by many as a fringe player, he is badly needed in the team not only as an accomplished performer, but also to provide the leadership that the team lacks.

I feel like people on this board are harder on Nash than others in our midfield. At least he cracks in and attempts to lay pressure, unlike our other front runners in there
2 touches in the first half, when the whips were cracking. As bad a performance as ive seen.

Other strange move is adding a tall defender, when they only have 1 tall fwd. Strange. Assuming Weddle is playing up the ground.
Think Serong opens up a few options. He plays as the CHB which means it helps free Sicily up, also freeing Scrimma up. With Scrimma freed up, he can play smaller, meaning Amon can push up onto a wing more or we can push Weddle up onto a wing at times. It also means that we can also see Dimma going forward as well.

With the Swans the following week who have three genuine talls in Amarty, McLean and McDonald, a great chance for Serong to secure his spot with a good game.
