if this is true, anyone who took part in any sort of racist pile-on needs to be called out and where possible, banned from the club. Unacceptable
Some of the posts (unless the screen shots I saw were fake) were bloody disgraceful. (Hard to prove they were hawks fans though.)

The drug cheat looking down his nose at a great club which will be around long after everyone has forgotten him. I can't handle the humour. I would like to ask Willie why so many indigenous players have left Port Adelaide and found a happy home at Hawthorn. There has been a plethora of them.
Very strong point.

Don't be surprised Chief comes out to correct the record, in his usual call a spade a spade way. Think he would be insulted and offended that his story is being misconstrued to something it wasn't. He is the furthest thing from Racist.
Jesus.

Glad to hear Willie Rioli say his old man was a Hawk supporter at least, so you'd assume that means it wasn't all bad memories.

Port actually want to play Hawthorn every year at AO and request for it before the fixture announcement and have so for a decade! Kochie is on record about it a fair few years back. Their crowd and viewership numbers are as healthy as any other clashes they have bar their showdown. But, the AFL would do well to have us face off at the G in a Friday night match next year. Hoping.

If this is true that’s ****ing bullshit.. why should they get a leg up over us for 10 years straight? I can’t wait to expose those frauds on the MCG.
As a side there is nothing more cringe when their bogan fans hold up the scarfs singing Never Tear Us Apart.. I get absurdly embarrassed for all involved

I missed this, but that would make the post pretty bizarre would it not?

His old man had such a bad time that he continued to support the club.. am I missing something here?
he said it an interview yesterday at training, saying his dislike of Hawthorn was his own view and that his old man supported them and conceded he went over the top with it. Unquestionably a man grieving the loss of his Dad, so suggests the Dunstall anecdote (as innocuous as it was) was an issue for him.

Did he actually say that or did he mean Willie Rioli Sr used to be a Hawks supporter before he joined the club?

Thanks for the history lesson, but I've followed the Hawks since 1968, as well as being a sports historian, I know all this. How it relates to how we played today I have no idea. The 1991 Hawks were a team of seasoned professionals, many of whom had been there, done that, many times over through the 80s. We knew if they hit the finals in reasonable form, they were in with a real chance. The current team are nowhere near that stage yet.

Why how far did the hawks get last year as far as finals, from a 0-5 loss start to the year when no one had given us chance?

And all with missing Day, and McKenzie we come within a kick of winning Port and playing in a preliminary final where anything could have happened.

We all know the history of what happened in 2008.

Remember one thing we didn't just start the year as flag favourites for no reason.

Go Hawks 👍

There are more than a handful of explanations as to why we put in a shocker vs. the Power (hard for a young side to stay up so long, shape of their ground, scheduling, overconfidence, loss of players etc.).

But the one point that looms large over a performance like that, is that you can pretty much tell Jack #$@! about a team's prospects for GF success based on a game played in Rd. 5.

The rubber hits the road on Monday though.

Sam, the players, Club and us supporters will know whether it was an aberration or a more serious structural issue that is going to need addressing.

Either way it's not the end of the world. We're in a different space if one of Dear or Lewis comes into the team and gets going. The flow on effect of that would suddenly mean the entire front half is freed up as the pieces domino and Chol or Gunston is suddenly matched up in our favor, along with one or two of the smalls as well.

We also couldn't transition the ball out of a back half last year until Calsher came into the side.

Then suddenly he clunked a few on stop plays in the back half (his first was a huge mark against the dogs, in his debut), and opposition defense became more accountable because were able to get the ball into our forward half. Almost instantly teams weren't running forward en-masse to cause turnovers because the risk of us getting the ball and scoring at the other end was too great.

At this early stage our club is doing really well to have banked 4 wins without a true 1st choice key forward. Things really aren't anywhere near as bad as they seem after last weeks loss. But this week tells us a lot more imo, either about the true nature of our midfield depth or what might need a tweak before September.

I think this rivalry will just fizzle out. With any luck next time we meet we are top 4 they are outside the 8, we teach them a lesson at UTAS and end their year. Then hinkley is gone and next year is not so important and we'll be more focussed on sides like GWS, GC.
