Let’s use some logic here. McCauliffe is clearly building his tank so when he comes in he can stay in the team as a midfielder. Don’t worry about short term sugar hits at selection. It’s long term strategy as the W is not important against the Lions who we won’t beat.

Does McCauliife benefit more long term from a full game in the VFL midfield, or a bits and pieces midfield role against the Lions where we probably get obliterated ?

Patience grasshoppers, patience.

They are not going to play McAulif in the midfield. By the time they pick him to play Prestia will be back and they will drop Sonsie and play McAulif on a forward flank. Then when Prestia gets injured they will play Dow or McIntosh in the centre instead of McAulif because he’s not dominating off half forward.

No matter who we select across the season we are going to cop regular beltings.

We will play some good halves as we did against Port and Saints in bad losses.

We’ve won five quarters out of twelve thus far this season. I remember three seasons into their rebuild the Roos lost sixteen quarters in a row.

We’ve got ten of our eventual best side not playing this week. And that doesn’t include our two top six draft picks next year.

As frustrating as it is things are going fine.

I think Brisbane will have 10 of their eventual best side missing on Saturday.
No guarantees in this sport I’m sorry to say.

Clearly Yze is an AFL plant to help with their dastardly plan to destroy the Richmond Football Club, not just from the outside but from within as well.

Why else wouldn't we be playing every kid is under 21 and/or played less than 50 games that is fit and playing well. I mean surely we should have more than 13 players with less than 50 games lining up this week as weplay last year's Premiers

I know we will cop beltings but that's not the issue. The problem I see, is that we are not trying to see which of the available kids are worth keeping. We already know what McIntosh brings, we know that he is not in our best 22 if we had a full list and we know that he is going to get worse not better in the future. We also know that playing him will not stop us from being belted. What we need to find out is McAulif and Sonsie and Smith and Green capable of making our best 22. So why are we playing McIntosh and Short and maybe Dow ahead of them.
Same with the midfield combination of Taranto and Hopper. We know it doesn't work. We should know that we need more speed in there but rather than try any of the above-mentioned kids we seem to be waiting for Lalor and Smillie and probably our future first round pick to save us. Meanwhile one of the kids we are ignoring could be a Kane Lambert, but we will never know. It's not the beltings that annoy me, it's Yze's "there's nothing we can do about it" excuse that he uses to justify doing nothing.

Yze isn't a plant, but he could be a mistake. Remember this guy assessed our playing list and believed we could jump back into the premiership window. That alone says he may not be the right man for the job.

All good, after considering all the 'overwhelming evidence' I've decided to embrace the belief that the AFL is corrupt and are doing everything in their power to undermine Richmond, so it's only logical to believe that they have found a way to infiltrate the club and get people on the inside.

Gale wouldn't buy in so they created Tasmania so they could shift him out, Louie was also a plant, but he was too good at his job that his cover was going to be blown with all the ACLs, soft tissue injuries and year long recoveries for broken bones that the AFL paid him off to get out before anyone woke up to it.

I'm a bit suspicious that we've now appointed Gieschen as our head recruiter, I mean we all remember how things went the last time we put a Gieschen in charge of things at Richmond.

I'm suspicious as well, not even joking. Gieshen was the one who experimented with new umpiring rules on Richmond when he was at the AFL umpire department (?)

Reading today how Brisbane haven't beaten us at the G since 2009... which has only been 7 matches. 🤔

Is that right??

What does that even mean?

We are at the start of a ground zero rebuild and have won five of twelve quarters. We’ve got the following players (at minimum) to come in to the selection mix by round one next year : Smillie, Hotton, Faull, Hugo, Balta, Gibcus, Lefau, Clarke, Mansell, Alger, Sims, McCauliffe, Prestia, two x top six draftees.

Of course Prestia may be retired and we will have other injuries - but we are at absolute rock bottom now from a list quality and availability standpoint, so it’s all huge upside as we develop into the future.

If we lose sixteen quarters in a row through the middle of 2027 I’ll be majorly panicked. I’m not panicked at all three games into a ground zero rebuild.

Don’t worry … I’m the biggest critic of McIntosh there is. I said we should’ve delisted him as he will take 20 games off the kids in 2025, and we see that’s happening.

I’m also an advocate of giving Sonsie an extended run in the midfield as I hate seeing TT and Hopper as permanent CBA mids leaving little exposure for others.

But TT and Hopper have 5 more years each. They need to be a part of the solution moving forward. I believe we will see a much bigger spread of CBA’s as the season rolls on with a much better mix.

And McAuliife is in his second season, so there’s no rush to find out about him. Same as other new draftees. And Green is in the side as a pressure forward - IMO he’ll never be a midfield option with the players we have coming through, so no point giving him CBA’s. Same goes for Smith.

So IMO the only player this week playing VFL who should perhaps be playing AFL is McCauliife, and rumour is he’s got a niggling injury.

The CBA midfield post bye will be any combo of: TT, Hopper, Prestia, Lalor, McCauliffe, Smillie, Ross and Hotton… with Seth Campbell
as an option. Then we will be adding at least 1 x top-6 draft pick and maybe 2 to that mix.

So I think that’s why we are seeing what we are seeing now, where players they see as the midfield of the future are being played there and others are being developed in other positions.

So as much as I’d like to see Sonsie get CBA exposure, the club may be very clear that if he wants a career, he simply must develop elsewhere as in future we will have 8 better options than him for the midfield.

Never seen anything like it. Chernobyl style. Pure unbridled fury.
Little to gain from arguing with posters who you thought to be quite intelligent and level headed

Hard not to potentially see him as someone that deals with kids very well and will be good for their development - but to take the next step we might need 'more' at that time if/when it comes ....
