Also just quietly, everyone’s been talking about Battle and rightly so. Only 23 years old, can improve heaps now that he’s hopefully settled.

If he can prove that this is the standard of his game now by repeating it game in, game out, then we have solved our CHB problem.
Geez it's easy to forget he's only 23 👌

Happy to get the win. We still look a messy though

Battle was fantastic. Still think he'd make a great forward but can be elite down back. Loved his decision making and seeing him take the game on.

Really glad we have Crouch.

Happy for Higgins.

King is a star.

Brad Hill's turnovers are beyond a joke.

Overall it was a pretty meh game with a few good signs but nothing to make me feel like we'll tear it up this season, regardless of how good Max is.

Let’s just hope he wants to stay after being dicked around by Ratts last year

I think we'd be the only side running with 5 talls down back and there's probably a good reason for that.

Also, Bolton, Costanza, Edwards and Baker all started forward forntye tigers on the weekend. Not sure about those match ups, we may struggle when the ball hits the deck.
Balta and Lynch are there and Jack Rewoldt might come back early

D-Mac's meter's gained for the game was right up there.
Lionert gained nearly as many but his were mindless bombs.
Hill gained only slightly more.

19 disposals for 16 kicks to McKenzie.
30 disposals for 17 kicks to Hill.

I actually didn't mind Lienert. He was hardly ground breaking but he used it pretty well I thought apart from a couple of clangers and when he was bombing it out it was mostly as we were struggling to clear the ball from defence. I thought he looked like a good option to keep Sincs in the midfield.

St Kilda – Daniel McKenzie

McKenzie is starting to become a really consistent AFL player and is one of those who is underrated in Brett Ratten’s side. He does the tough stuff in the contest, but can also use the ball really well by foot as well. McKenzie had 19 disposals and seven intercepts against the Dockers as the Saints put together a third-quarter burst to run over the top of their opponents.

Jones is a better mid than half back I think.

There is no reason we can't rotate him through the wing and on ball though to give Sinclair more time in the middle

He was a solid HBF with a messy kick but probably a more consistent player than in the midfield. His best midfield games are elite looking but his worst are like playing one man down. If when he gets tagged out or sat on we could switch out for Sinclair perhaps that's an ideal way to manage him. Gives us some element of surprise as well.

Joyce is not up to it. The move of Sinclair into the middle is the best move Ratts has made.

I like Joyce, I think he's got something. Good kick, solid competitor and disciplined, he's only played a handful of games. His holding the ball that gave them their first goal was absolute shit. He was tackled immediately and wrapped up. It was a pretty solid game and he didn't make many errors under a lot of pressure and played on Lobb and made him pretty much ineffective. He scored two goals for the game the bullshit free and one from a mark where Joyce wasn't on the ground. Compared to Howard last week he looked a million bucks. Howard made Gimp Goggles look like Tony Lockett.

Whats to say Lienert will be picked for next week? Webster and Paton played in the back line didnt they? Sure Hill was down there a lot as well
The suggestion was that we play 5 taller defenders though. Thats what im talking about.

Not sure how we fit Hill, Webster and Paton down there I'd that is the case

We just have so many of those not quite KP sized talls that we can't play them all. It's a strange recruiting strategy. Battle, Wilkie, Sharman, Allison, Membrey, Lienert, Highmore, Wood, Hayes and even perhaps Coffield are all that kind of suited to third tall size types.

It's hard to build a side around those types. They are more suited to carrying two or three than half a dozen. There are a lot that are too good to play VFL but we don't have spots for them.
