My mistake, I did mean to say that Collingwood has won four of the past five matches between these two teams, including the last two. Collingwood definitely has the recent edge, as going back any further than that is too long ago, and too many changes to the current teams.Firstly, you've only beaten us the last two times we've played you, not four as you suggest. We are actually 5-5 in the last 10 games, so no-one has an advantage in the head to head in recent times.
Yes it was a gross exaggeration, but congratulations should go to Geelong for the improvement they have shown this season so far, and I don't think anybody has been comparing that performance to this season. This time last season, Collingwood were 4th with 9 wins and 5 losses, which is the same as this season, but I feel quite sure that Collingwood has improved as well though. Collingwood had just suffered 8 goal and 10 goal thrashings to Richmond and St.Kilda last season and were wobbling during a period where they lost 6 matches in 9 weeks. This season though feels that their best is still yet to come.I admit the 250% figure was a gross exaggeration, but the fact remains the way we're playing now is entirely different to how we played in that game. Comparing us now to how we played in that game is like comparing apples with oranges.
That is unknown though as the future is undetermined. All it takes is 2% to make a massive impact on performance, and if they feel safe and snug at the top of the ladder, then it may be enough to open the door a little. Only time can tell regarding that.As for us taking the foot off the accelerator slightly because we're two games and percentage ahead of the competition, I would think that the opposite is true.
Maybe Collingwood won't allow Geelong to gain revenge on last season. Maybe Collingwood is a better all around team than Geelong that matches-up better against them than any other, and with 8 matches and finals to come, nobody knows for sure yet. I don't think anybody is realistically expecting Geelong to fall over this season as Adelaide had done late last season, but it is true that it's difficult to maintain this type of performance as shown by the past four premiership teams.Add to that the temptation to exact revenge after that game last year, and I'm quietly confident we will chalk up our 10th win in a row this week, by about 4-5 goals.
I'm sure you're confident of a Geelong win as they are raging hot favourites with the bookies, and only one person tips Collingwood to win in the Age today. As much as Geelong may want some revenge for last season, Collingwood also may want to show that they are better than that.
