In Melbourne we don't realise how incredible on such a poor weather day we can get 20,000 to a sport game that is two meandering sides. Wow

Really? We have the highest average attendance league wide this year and you're able to spin what would be our lowest home crowd this century and throw in incredible at the same time?! We supposedly have 80,000 members according to Pert!

The Crows v Roos got 38,000 on a Thursday night in similar conditions so 20,000 would be a dismal turnout no matter what way it's spun. I think we'll nudge 30k myself.

Have you ever been to an Adelaide home game? It is their big day out, BBQ's in the carpark, meet up before and after the game, talkback on radio after a loss is not a patch on what goes on in Melbourne.
Further I think that their position on the ladder, their name hasn't been in the media (drugs, coach under the hammer, President with a big mouth) and 'injuries' is a lot different to our situation. Not close to comparison.

If supporters don't turn up because it is going to be very cold, and they have children or are elderly playing an interstate club that they don't have any rivalry, I don't blame them.

Yeah I have given my family live in SA and all are mad Croweaters. We say we're the biggest club in the land yet here we can't even compare ourselves with Adelaide lol.

I have no issue whatsoever with people not attending, but spinning a 20k turnout as anything other than poor is reflective of an apathetic supporter base, that isn't engaged and losing faith in the direction of their club.

Spare me the 'injury' comment. At least selection was spot on this week!

Yet you fail to mention the other points I made that would also affect attendance.
I know of at the least three families that aren't prepared to take the children out on a night like is forecast whether wise and also the differing ladder positions and other factors.
I doubt very much that it is just due to an apathetic supporter base.
Sparing you the 'injury' comment would mean that you don't believe that the team would be better tonight with those inclusions, right? LOL.

I am off to the footy tonight. Rug up well and it's still a great place to be. I'm riding the treadly to get there so that will be the worst part. Hope it's not pouring down rain then.

No, your injury comment has nothing to do with tonight's attendance! Because I'm sure there's thousands out there tonight that are sitting back going "oh I'm not going tonight because Fas, Elliott, Swan and Adams are injured"...

Good for those families it's a wise decision. As someone that sat through the horrible Sunday night match v Carlton I'd encourage just that. The reason I didn't acknowledge them is they have an effect, but not to reduce attendances to record lows. I'd suggest we've become extremely apathetic if we only have 20,000 rusted on supporters with 80,000 members...

Is Ed going to be there tonight..........or is he already on Lindsay Fox's cruise through the Mediterranean?

FWIW over the past 20 years we've had a whopping 8 of 456 matches with sub 20k attendances. Only one of those was a home game (19,441 v West Coast at Vic Park in 1997). Our lowest MCG crowd was 26k in our spoon year...

Of the 4 this century under 20k all were in northern stadiums. Manuka v the Roos, Spotless twice v GWS and Carrara v GC. It won't be that low, but if it is that's a horrible sign for where we're at as a club.

First home game I'll be missing this year.

Just getting over being sick and the forecast is way too bleak :(

Attendance is going to look dire I reckon.

Just text the wife to bring my flask (don't tell anyone) with the Tsiporo/Grappa/Moonshine in it! :D

I need to meet up with you as I normally only take coffee, blanket, gloves and hand warmer.

Looking forward to seeing how the boys come out after the bye, the first 20 mins will tell a big story tonight. With the weather prediction it's a case of being first to the ball and you will win your share of free kicks, contested footy is king tonight and we actually go alright in The wet so I'm looking forward to it

This stuff can start a car Maggie

Its my Dads home brew handed down from generation to generation.......its in my blood so to speak!

Put a bit in the coffee and you will have no need for a blanket, gloves or a hand warmer :p

True but that's just what we're used to though.

Most other sports would be incredibly jealous that we can pull 20K on a Friday night in Antarctic conditions. Yet this will most likely set the record for lowest Collingwood MCG crowd won't it?

Merely commenting that Melbourne is an amazing sports city with attendance.
Anyway that's just a side thing, which I doubt will occupy my thoughts much further
