Autopsy Round 10, 2024: Hawks get pipped by Power

I thought Nash was on JHF for the whole game

I saw him mostly on Butters with the exception of the times when he was called up to ruck.

They had similar TOG up until the 3rd quarter.

Pretty damn pleased with the way we played for the vast majority of the game.
Put pressure on early, made the most of our chances, and disappointly got pipped at the post.
Hardwick was phenomenal to watch - what a gun.
Great to see CJ back out there for the first time in what feels like yonks - hopefully his soft tissue issues are behind him.
Lots of blokes had great games and should be pleased with their performance, even if disappointed with the final result.
Phillips did well in his first game.

Go Hawks!

Am I the only one that’s positive about that game? So many good things were on display out there. The win is nothing but the fact that we got in that position is really promising and exciting. I see development across the board and the W column doesn’t mean much to me in 2024. You could even argue we want to finish bottom 4 to cash in on another draft. It was a really great game and I’m as excited about the team as I have been in a long long time. Had that ball missed and we won by 4pts I’m not sure I would feel any different about the game.
Recency bias.
I think after the blood pressure lowers we'll all appreciate how good we were away against a team no one gave us a chance against. There's plenty to work with and we still have Lewis, Sicily & Scrimshaw which is a lot of experience and leadership that we lacked in the final term.

-22 in contested ball and -6 in clearances in the last quarter tells the story. Just couldn’t get our hands on the ball and win many 50:50 contests

Lets not be too harsh on the team or coaches. They toughed it out but couldn't hang on. A bad result but lots to come out of the game. Team has improved dramatically over the past few weeks. They played some really good footy. Team didn't choke. They just couldn't hang on and that last goal was crazy. We lost it at the final ball up where we should have set up to bottle it up for another bounce to kill the clock. There were mistakes and some sloppy handling in that last quarter but we should be proud of the team.

Meek great game but the could have sat on the pill ‘by accident’

We did not deserve the win, we stopped trying to kick goals. We went 100% defensive on the last qtr. That is on us!

Putting ourself in a winning position is a huge step forward. That can not be glossed over. We lost our composure at the end there but it’s not really that surprising given what they’re playing for and what we are playing for. I’m not even convinced that we cost ourselves the game by defending too much. I think we were fighting against a super good opponent on their home deck who knew how important a win was. The fact that we held on until the last 2 seconds is a big positive. I thought we defended very well to honest. They got the points but we got a lot out of the game also don’t worry about that. Exciting times!

I understand we’re all hurting, but some pretty harsh comments and a lot of captain hindsight calls.

We started the game with pretty near identical experience and average age to … North, with both us having 10 players under 50 games.

I know which team I’d rather be and am proud of such a young team giving Port, a top table contender, the fright of their lives.

Yes it should have been a win, but we’re not going to be hunting finals, so I’d rather the team hurt so they learn not to do this when it actually matters.

We were winning comfortably all game playing smart positive football. We lost our composure and went negative. As soon as Port had a sniff we were in trouble.
As disappointed as I am with such a heartbreaking loss, I am very proud of the effort. It's a learning experience for the playing and coaching group. Lick the wounds and move on.

100% As long as we learn from our mistake asap!

A fair effort without Lewis, Sicily, Scrimshaw and Blanck

I really don't know why we shut up shop in the last like we did for essentially the whole last quarter, the good teams don't do that when they have a decent lead, they just go on to win by 8 goals.
Yep - Geelong, Carlton, Melbourne and Collingwood would have played it differently.

That’s why we are still a fair way off but moving in the right direction.

Don’t forget how well we played to lead by 41 against a much healthier and hardened club.

Cant wait for the press conference. Heat must come for the coaching group.

really? won 2 of our last 3 and lost to Port - away - by a point on the last kick of the game. Without our two best defenders

you really think HEAT? should come on the coaching group? Matbe the heat should come on you for such a stupid comment maybe

Just some silly decisions cost us the game, Weddle just neeeded to pressure on the wing & the game was over, chooses to push.

Meeks tap at the last centre bounce was straight to the port player, should've tapped it other side and keep it in tight.

Plenty to learn from for a young group but can't take away from the positives in the first three quarters.

Future is very bright

We were out on our feet midway through the 3rd quarter.

Lot of our boys just running in quick sand.
