I don't know what the answer to umpiring is. AFL don't seem to think its a problem but to me its the worst thing about the game and probably why for non-Tiger games I flick to rugby in the breaks and often don't flick back.

Holding is OK as long as you don't have a handful of jumper which is all umps look for.
Shoving from behind is generally OK, but holding your position when in front is deemed a block.
Contested mark - whether an opponent may have had a touch depends on umpires mood in that moment.
Chopping of arms - see above
Was the kick 15 metres or not - see above.
You forgot that throwing the ball is basically accepted until the shock of one or two completely out of the blue and no different to 100 others inexplicably get chosen as illegal per game. It’s a blight on a game that’s already becoming unwatchable

We got a lesson in that third quarter - the maggots gave them the momentum but we were unable to stop the rot. Gawn’s influence huge all game

Nice to get a few cheapies with Max off the ground late - Yze being looked after by his mates

Rioli and steely green would be my outs for Sonze and someone else to sub

I can deal with the mistakes.

I can accept that the young kids struggled with 3 games in 11 days.

But my god if I have to watch Jayden Short dump kick it 60m in the air 40m down the line when he has 3 guys waiting inside for handball again, I may shoot myself. He is the biggest liability in the team outside Rioli.

Couldn’t agree more, those two and McIntosh have got to go. I know KMac tries hard but you just know anytime he gets the ball he’s going to get caught and cough it up. Frustrates the hell out of me.

I don’t think Melbourne should get carried away either, they’re not that good.

I think it's our structure. We seem to sag back and let them walk it out to half back our the wings before we start pressure. Hopefully this gets addressed.

We’ve been doing it for a few weeks. It’s to protect the corridor I suspect, and doubt it will change in the short term. The big games (Port and Saints) we have up too much of the corridor and were too easily scored against.

Hopefully the system will get more ingrained over the course of the year and enables more pressure to be applied.

If you go to the game and watch Dow, it’s evident how hard he works to find a way into space and create an option (too many settle early for a long down the line kick). Good to see him get rewarded. Have always said his lack of physical traits and imprecise disposal would see his long term future limited, but if he can play like that gives a different type who can impact around stoppage.

Liked Gray’s game. If he goes for it he at the very least kills the ball. A good starting point to develop off.

Thought Banks also deserves a mention.

MRJ was horrendous. But with all the small forwards pressuring poorly, coming of three games in 11 days, and nine day break before the Hawks game. Also think his game versus Suns get him at least one game credit.

No one in the VFL raised their hand for a call up. so suspect that Gray will make way for Balta and Brown (think it will be management similar to Trainor) will come back in to the 22 and I’ll go with Tresize moving to a sub.

I hate potting our inexperienced blokes but does Yze have the balls to drop and then delist Rioli?

Just not up to it, seems lost, late to the ball, 2nd efforts are horrendous.
Not having a crack at you Coach, but I do wonder how many people pay attention to the off the ball stuff that Maurice does. He is playing a sacrificial role where he runs himself ragged with a lot of unrewarded running but gets crucified for the lack of statistics. I understand the angst I just think it's a bit misguided at times and IMO a lot of it has to do with his name. If he was called John Smith, I doubt he'd cop the same.amount of criticism that he does

Would have to be the worst decision in the history of the game .....the idiot umpire took a guess at what happen .....these umpires should be put under the spotlight as it's getting worse
This was bad but the tunnelling against Faull I think it was in the second when Faull was the one who was tunnelled was just as bad. Last week was good this week same old shit

What about mansell I don’t see what coaches see in him does f all meant to be a pressure forward and is nowhere near it
He was quiet, but I noticed numerous times tonight his hard running and pressure resulted in some Melb mistakes. 3 weeks out I thought he would be a tad rusty. Tough night as a small forward I guess

Total BS.

It’s a terrible way to do it. It puts enormous pressure on our backs as they’re constantly having to defend. Our forwards and mids need to actually work up and be accountable

he was lost nearly the whole game. im not buying it. he was slow, off balance and unco.

After 6 years of watching Gawn have his way with us we still have no plan to combat his influence. He’s always been the worst match up for Nank yet still no change. We lost in 1 quarter of footy again and were pretty poor tonight really. Tom Lynch deserves a lot of love. Without him I’d hate to see what this looks like
He's literally one of the best players in the league.

It's not about not having a plan to combat, it's the fact we don't have the players to combat him. Nank works hard, but he doesn't have the size to outruck or outmark him and we don't have a second ruck that can give Nank a rest against him.

Secondly him setting up behind the ball isnt like we just don't know how to counter this, we don't have the skill or talent to do so at the moment. It would require either hitting short targets down the ground, going fast on the rebound or cutting through the centre of the ground and the going over him.

Fair enough mate, it's just that dropped mark and lack of effort that got me in the end.

Ridiculous. Have you seen what Clarkson is doing over at North?

You need the talent, experience and fitness to execute your game plan.

I’ve seen a few North Melbourne games this season (and in previous seasons) and they’re totally diabolical. But this is also why I’m worried about us. North Melbourne are living proof that all isn’t solved with the mere passing of time. There is absolutely zilch to indicate that they’re going anywhere fast. It’s the same with us. I love Sam Lalor but, realistically, we have 7/10ths of ****-all going for us at the moment and I can’t see anything even remotely resembling a game plan in what Yze is doing.

It’s none of that shit that bothers me. It’s that he gets so few opportunities to damage with the ball and he constantly messes up in those moments. He would have cost us 3 goals with poor skills.
