Just watched the VFL replay on 7plus.

First up, channel 7 cut the final minutes(?) off... Wtf?! Mason Cox had just bombed it to their attacking goal square where our defender marked unattended, and we were just rebounding out of defensive 50 and it just cuts off! I mean, I knew the result already, but seriously!

Anyway, thought a few of our AFL listed players played reasonably well, and showed some AFL quality traits.

Egg was about our best with his run and precision kicking out of defence. Still showed he's a weak 1 on 1 defender tho.

Cumberland played a great game. I doubt he has the tank to play a Castagna/Aarts role, so not sure what role he'd fill in the AFL side. Showed something though.

MRJ was busy, and his pace and tackling pressure stand out as AFL qualities. Not sure he's quite there in terms of tank, and finding enough of the ball for a debut yet.

Parker played ok, got a fair bit of the ball, but didn't use it all that well.

Martyn was also pretty good, especially as the game wore on. Looks solid.

Biggy looked a bit lost. Was giving away a fair bit of height in most contests, but not sure I see any standout AFL qualities there. Not based on this game, anyway. I suppose it's one of his first game taking the #1 defender with Miller out, so maybe just struggled with that.

Most others were ok, but it was the above players who stood out most to me.

Oh, and some questionable umpiring, especially late to swing the momentum. Even the early 50 against Rioli that gifted Cox a goal. Didn't pay another of those all day, even though I noticed a couple of obvious ones that should've gifted us shots on goal! But ultimately, we had a few changes particularly earlier in the 4th qtr and just couldn't put them away. Just frustrating when umps pull one decision out of their rears, then you don't see it paid again all day.

There was a howling wind for the whole game. Sides kicking into the wind all turned it over, Parker included. He may not have a great kick that hasn't stopped half our side. His action is fine, the open spaces would suit his game. He is fast, tough and wants the ball in the air and then on the ground. Deserves a crack, because those who he would replace can turn it over a bit too.
Yeah, I'd read some feedback indicating he's an absolute butcher. Having now watched it, while he's certainly not a precision user, I do think he would be better in an AFL team with a bit more space, and teammates giving better outlet options. He had a dip, and seems to have a good tank, so wouldn't be completely against him getting a chance.

Really liking the look of Will Martyn since the VFL resumed after the lockdown.

Had 31 disposals 13 tackles and 7 clearances against Collingwood
27 disposals 7 tackles and 3 clearances against the Bullants
21 disposals 6 tackles and 4 clearances against Sandringham
25 disposals 2 tackles and 7 clearances against Williamstown

Could just be that clearance winning midfielder along side RCD that we need to find their way into the AFL rotation moving forward. Has a nice size about him at 186cm 82kg
How did young Noah Cumberland look ?

Yeah it’s a pity his game doesn’t stack up at the next level, great foot skills .

He’s very damaging at VFL level put gets smashed one on one at AFL level.

Mansel should be played from now on, as he has the grunt that eggy lacks.

If only we ciuld transplant Egg's kicking skills into McIntosh. Have an absolute gun.

Considering that is Cumberland's 3rd game after 3 weeks covid break coming off a knee reco you wouldn't expect him to have a great tank at this stage.
Looks like he could play most positions, forward, mid, back, remains to be seen just yet. Might pinch a game or two if he keeps last weeks form up.

Only saw the first half as I was heading to the G, but he looked better than any time I've seen him this year

Yeah, not a long term knock on him, just a question of whether it would be rushing him in a bit early.

110% on all of that.
think Short could be a very damaging wingman.
No pun intended but I think we are too short in the backline. The sooner we get Broad and Vlaustin playing their proper roles rather than undersized kpd, the better
Agree whole heartedly

I watched the back half of the VFL game on my ancient phone. All players looked like small fuzzy blobs. I can confirm that some of the fuzzy blobs appeared to move around the screen more than other fuzzy blobs. The blobs may have been from either side, they also may have just been the cracks in my screen.

In: the two most active fuzzy blobs
Out: Castsgna and Dow

Go you mighty blobs!

Richmond VFL playing coach, Steve Morris, provides a summary of how the Tigers’ players performed in last Sunday's loss to Collingwood.

Josh Caddy (39 disposals, nine clearances, seven inside-50s)

"Josh was the big, mature body that we needed around the footy. He fought incredibly hard to get the ball moving our way, had nine clearances and was very good for us on the day."

Will Martyn (31 disposals, 13 tackles, seven clearances)

"Will has really been working hard for us inside and is in great form. He’s a young player but doesn’t play like it. He tackled hard and won his own footy all day. Outstanding game."

Matt Parker (24 disposals, eight tackles, six inside-50s, six marks)

"'MP' put great pressure on and once again was an important part of our midfield. He brought others into the game with the use of his hands which was also great to see."

Derek Eggmolesse-Smith (23 disposals, six marks, six rebound-50s)

"Every time he had the footy on the weekend something seemed to happen. He was able to pick his way through the opposition defense with his beautiful kicking skills on multiple occasions and was very important to our offensive ball movement."

Noah Cumberland (20 disposals, five goals, six marks)

"Noah just continued to turn up and throw himself at contest after contest all day, and his third quarter in particular was sensational. He finished with five goals and made his presence felt in the forward half in a different role. The challenge will be for him to maintain the work rate and intensity that saw him get such great reward after the bye."

Maurice Rioli Jnr (17 disposals, 10 tackles, four inside-50s)

"'MJ' was ferocious on defense and used his pace and agility on offense also. Tackled hard and it was good to see his speed make a difference for us around the footy. Had a number of very exciting passages of play."

Samson Ryan (16 disposals, 20 hit-outs, five marks, three goals)

"Once again, Samson was faced with a big test in the ruck against seasoned ruckmen which is great for his development. Fought really hard and was able to hit the scoreboard for us."

Hugo Ralphsmith (13 disposals, four inside-50s, two goals)

"Hugo was not at his very best on the day but he was very influential in the final quarter. His run and carry stood out. He finished beautifully from the pocket to keep us in the game."

Bigoa Nyuon (seven disposals, four tackles, two rebound-50s)

"'Biggy' had a big task with Mason Cox playing up forward. It was a great challenge for him and a good opportunity for him to review his contest work and really grow from the experience.
