Totally politically incorrect Rex and we miss him for it, the 1994 final minute call will go down in football folklore.

He really wasn't as far as I remember. If anything, he was a model of how to be colourful and interesting without being offensive or derogatory.

His indiscretions over time (or at least what I can find details of) are mostly cranky old man stuff:
- taking forks on a plane to protest against excessive airline security (really just dumb)
- swearing at a fan who was annoying him while he was calling the game
- paying sex workers for sex (shouldn't be controversial, if that is your thing)
- getting in a fight with Byron Bay locals
- cheating on his wife
- road rage / attacking a cyclist (this one is bad...)

The only 'politically incorrect' incident was describing Leon Davis as being 'as black as a dogs...'. In context, he was clearly responding to commentators talking about 'Neon Leon'. Rex's full comment was "well he isn't lighting it up tonight, he's as black as a dogs... guts'. He realised mid sentence it was inappropriate and trailed off his speech before finishing, then openly said on air essentially 'that was wrong, I screwed up... I'm taking a break'. He then apologised to Davis in person.

That was a bad gaffe... in a very long career. I think he also had a nickname for a player that was a bit inappropriate, and the who asked him to stop... and he did.

Maybe I have missed something and if so I'll retract, but overall he did a pretty bloody good job of adding colour without being harmful.
