I think you can even get it as a ringtone.

He's paid to be an entertainer but to commentate the football at the same time. In that respect he does better than most commentators, and he does call it like he sees it. He's in a league of his own as an entertainer IMO.

I loved it how Triple M's Tonty Martin dissed him for sleeping with a prostitute - It was a pisser!

Rex Hunt was good for the game with his commentary throughout the nineties and early noughties but like everything I feel he has become a bit monotonaus and stale.
It is time some new blood stepped forward.
Rex did say this will be his last contract.

We get the 3AW commentaries here in Adelaide on 5AA.

Good value IMO and very entertaining, although Rex does get a bit carried away with himself at times.

The rest of his team complement him nicely though, so it all ends up as a top package to listen to.

I reckon you could swap Rex for KG Cunningham any day

If it is a boring games where the Roos are not playing - it is entertaining but it is'nt football calling - its a bit like Kabuki Theatre you have no idea what is going on but it still holds your interest.

personally, i don't care about his personal life. i don't think anyone should either. its none of our business.

as a fisherman- i really liked him. always enjoyed his show.

as a commentator... worst EVER. i really can't stand listening to the guy, regardless of the context of the match. when i listen to footy on the radio, i like to know who has the ball and whats going on- not listen to this old fool trying to be hilariously funny- and failing.

its tragic to me that AW rates so highly with him on board. for me, 3aw lags terribly behind both ABC (the best team in footy) and MMM. hell- brian taylor and james brayshaw aren't even as overt as rex in trying to be funny... yet the are 100x funnier.

I TOTALLY agree... I used to listen to 3AW, but the past few years, he carries on so much with nicknames for players, I don't know who the hell he is talking about!!.. The ABC for mine is the best, at least you know when a goal gets kicked, or if it's a behind.. Thank goodness the ABC got some rights again this year...

Agree with the last two. So keen on the sound of his own voice, you can't tell what's going on. I would have thought that one of the basic rules of commentary is to keep the listen informed. If someone is kicking for goal, you should let us know what was the result. Not screech at the top of your voice and play silly sound effects. His knowledge of the game is also pretty poor.

ABC for me - clear diction and information.

I listen to 3AW mainly unless they aren't covering a Melbourne game and another station is and I think Rex is good but he can get annoying at times when he gets really off track.
Though the worst commentary teams by far are 5AA and 6PR, you won't get much more bias and idiocy than those two (That isn't a stab at Adelaide or Perth teams, just the stations).

3AW are good for capturing the excitement of footy but I can't put up with the other banter. I find Rex's use of nicknames has descended into self-referential smartarsedry. I don't know who's who & what's going on any more. It's particularly bad with Geelong games - all that 'orange roughie $5 a kilo at the Vicoria market' & 'shiny chrome motorcycle' bullcrap takes up half the commentary.

MMM might be behind play but Rex calls the play before it's happened sometimes by second guessing the next move & he can stuff it up.

I listen to the ABC. They're not perfect either as their commentators need a new set of binoculars - they get names mixed up all the time. How hard can it be to read the number on somebody's shirt? I've listened to an entire game while watching at the G' where Farren Ray was been both himself AND Matthew Boyd, which is a neat trick. Poor Boydy didn't get many touches on the radio version!

No adverts or constant sponsors references make a difference. And good old Simon Garlick is better value than many better known special comments guys.

I also recommend the ABC in the hour before the game starts. You'll hear some interviews with injured players from your team instead of endless adverts.

He does the same with Polly Farmer. He keeps telling Polly to 'get over it.' Time after time after time. All afternoon once. I think Rex should get over it.

Neither do I. Although I have listened to him in the past. It would be a dull message board if we only talked about things we liked, like cuts and blowjobs

You have to admire his genuine passion for the game of football, and his ability to convey that enthusiasm in his football calls. That said, the constant nicknames get to me a bit, and a lot of the time the call does become about Rex, rather than the footy. Plus I think Triple M have done the 'footy as entertainment' better over the last couple of years, and its shown in the ratings (although that could change now that they've cut their roster a bit).

What are the thoughts on him as a commentator. I loved listening to him during the footy broadcast, he livens things up and is always honest about the game.
I do believe there are plenty of people who dont like him (Rex's half our is a bit slow) so I'd like to hear thoughts.
