My comment was about the forwards and drafting.

Jeepers, does anyone actually read posts anymore?

Oh, and since you were saying 30 years, here was our forward line for game 1:
Abraham, Mann, Waterhouse
Bell, Groom, Chisholm

Would you take that now?

Amiss, Walters and maybe Treacy, get a game.
Waterhouse, Mann, Bell, Abraham and Chisolm walk in.
Hate to rain on you parade here but:

  • Mann and Chisholm didn't play forward in this game and Chisholm was never a permanent forward
  • Ridley was the other key forward with Groom that day.
  • Waterhouse not only didn't play he wasn't at the club. He was drafted at the end on the year.

Mann wasn't a very good forward, really he was a defender. I'd say of the list of actual forwards in Game One only Abraham would improve our current side.

For all the Banfield haters. A forward coming in this week and even darcy coming in for Taberner will allow Banfield to play higher up the ground on the wing where is much more dangerous.

Erasmus should get a full game at AFL level. If Chapman is ready he should come in for Hughes if not Worner in would be good. Not up to date with Peel but I would love to see Simpson or Delean get a debut even if it is as the sub. JOM probably isn't up to it.

We are a bees **** away from being 5-0 lets not panic.

Worner hasn’t played for a month, not an option

Chisholm was indeed a prince of pockets, but back pockets, right?

Am I delusional to think when Darcy is back we keep cyclone as 2nd ruck and play jacko as a midfielder fwd instead of a ruck fwd I don’t think cyclone been beaten in the ruck at all this year
Haha, I had the same shower thought... Treacy is a great second ruck. I reckon they could split the second ruck duties depending on match ups, game state, fatigue levels etc.

I think Treacy's game likes the odd stint in the ruck. Allows him to get his hands dirty and seems to improve his forward line play.

He's a huge weapon to have and I'm fascinated to see how he, Dogga and Swaggy combine over four quarters.

I think these changes have to happen:

In: Darcy
Out: Tabs

Immediately removes a liability in a struggling forward line and strengthens the ruck, allows Jackson rotating forward more to give us better dynamics there

In: Chapman
Out: Hughes

Surely this just has to happen, it's a clear as day upgrade and Hughes moves to become a handy depth player for the rest of the year.

Personally I'd add

Out: JOM, Emmett
In: Brodie, Simpson/DeLean

to the mix as well but I can't see us making 4 unforced changes after a competitive game and they had opportunities to do this sort of thing in previous weeks but didn't.

Plus it will confuse the hell out of the opposite coaching box 🎁

The first one has to happen now, the second once they're confident Chapman can stand up to AFL loads which I suspect isn't yet.

The others I don't see the rationale for.
I'm not sure what JOM offers, but having seen Erasmus come on as sub and seen Brodie before I don't see how either would do better.
Simpson in for Emmett is just hoping what's in the magic box is better than what we have. Simpson looked good in preseason but it's a lot different stepping up to AFL.
If the coaches thing Simpson could bring that effectively to AFL level he'll be in, particularly given our gaps at the moment.

I am a noted banfield skeptic but he really is the least of our problems this year and probably genuine best 23 at this point. He has done well.

Agree on Erasmus. Sub in the middle of the 4th of the game not an easy time to come on.

Personally I think it's because Johnson is more suited to the available role at AFL level.

Erasmus needs to build his strength and develop to be able to impact at AFL level, I struggle to think of more than one or two games he's done anything meaningful yet.
Same applies to Johnson though. And without knowing his personality, his body language seems to indicate a disinterest that Erasmus doesn't have. Erasmus , with much fewer opportunities has achieved similar to Johnson . Especially Johnson his season. I would prefer NOD or maybe Chapman or maybe try Wagner or later Stanley on the wing than either, personally but If one needs to earn his spot, so should the other. Imo

I was a little surprised they didn't play Erasmus inside mid instead id forward. Some of our mids looked like they were flagging a kittle

I expect Draper and Young to excel against WCE

this used to be the best game for Schultz - who will it be this time? Treacy can hold back McGovern and let Amiss free to goal

Firstly, Simpson is not ready to come in yet - he was getting beat up by WAFL players in his first game and was hurt. Imagine what AFL defenders would do to him.
Johnson is looking bad because he is playing wing and is not suited to this. Banfield looked his best when playing in this role to my knowledge.

So Darcy should come in for Tabs, with Treacy still doing a bit of ruck whilst Darcy gains match fitness.
Other changes should involve shuffling a few around. Maybe Ras could get the job of beating the sh?t out of HRH Reid?
