PRIDE GAME

This week’s game against Carlton is the Club’s annual Pride game, where we celebrate diversity and inclusion at our club.

The team will wear their Pride guernsey this week, which was designed in collaboration with the Purple Bombers.

The Purple Bombers, established in 2014, is the official diversity and inclusion supporter group of the Essendon Football Club.

The Purple Bombers work hard to create and establish a strong and diverse coterie group and setting the foundations of a strong, safe and accepting supporter group for all.

The Purple Bombers logo has been included on the guernsey to honour the incredible work they do creating a safe space for all Bomber fans at games.

This weekend, the Purple Bombers will have a marquee on the hill behind the Napier Street goals, so please give them a visit and check out their pride guernsey photo station and collect a free of charge pride flag.

The Bombers recorded a four point loss hosting the Eagles in very windy conditions last Sunday.

The Eagles kicked away early with two goals to start the first quarter, with Wood's side kept goalless in the first quarter for only the second time this season (the first time by ladder-leading Adelaide).

In front of their vocal home faithful, Maddy Prespakis (30 disposals, 11 tackles, nine clearances) was once again a force to be reckoned with around stoppages, while Georgia Nanscawen (21 disposals, 17 tackles, six clearances) continued to prove her importance to the Bombers' midfield.

But Essendon's stoppage dominance could not overcome the Eagles, and the Bombers struggled to find an avenue to goal, with star forward Bonnie Toogood restricted in her ability to find space while the wind affected the Bombers' ability to provide her with their usual delivery.

The importance of the captain's influence came to the fore in the fourth term, which saw her register Essendon's first goal, lifting the teams' spirits in the final term as they began to influence the game from the centre.

But it was too little, too late as classy goals from Toogood and Amber Clarke weren't enough to get the home side over the line, and the Bombers ultimately fell short by 4 points.

WEST COAST 2.1 2.1 3.4 3.5 (23)

LAST time we met, the Bombers made a late surge after trailing by 21 points at the last change, kicking three unanswered goals in the final term.

Despite two late chances, the Bombers were unable to kick a fourth final quarter goal, leaving them one point shy when the final siren sounded, securing a Carlton victory.

THIS Saturday, Essendon has made three changes for its side to take on Carlton.

Joanne Doonan and Renee Tierney will make way, while co-captain Steph Cain will miss due to a concussion suffered in the loss to the Eagles.
INJURY LIST

Lily-Rose Williamson could line up for her first game for the year, while Jacqui Vogt and Brooke Brown are on track with their recovery from calf injuries.

Williamson has been recovering from an ankle injury but has trained fully and participated in match simulation.

Head of Medical Services said Vogt and Brown are expected to train fully this week.

“Jacqui and Brooke are progressing well with their recovery, and if they can get through training throughout the week, they’ll be available for selection this weekend,”

“Credit to both players, they’ve been extremely committed and worked diligently through their rehab to ensure they are in the best condition to return.”

Georgia Gee is also progressing well in her recovery, with the forward increasing her running loads over the coming days.

The Bombers will be without Co-Captain Steph Cain this weekend after the midfielder suffered a concussion in the second quarter of their clash with West Coast.

He was just saying on the commentary that WARF can’t afford to send a team up there and they don’t do studio commentary because theyre not fox lol
Yeah, it all comes out of my own pocket. I've paid for commentators to fly to Sydney and Hobart to call games.
Including the two new broadcast kits I've purchased so we can do all these games, plus other costs (streaming, etc), so I'm at least $8,000 down for covering the season.

I investigated doing the Mackay trip (with either our Brisbane or Melbourne based callers) but the big problem was having to fly up Friday morning, then hotel costs and flying back Saturday lunchtime. Cost would be too much and also a logistics problem.

your coverage today was excellent, obviously biased because i'm a bombers fan but a lot of the other ones i've listened to have been pretty flat/not enough energy.

If Brisbane beats Melbourne, Brisbane finishes 4th.
If Brisbane lose and Essendon wins, Essendon finishes 4th.
If both Essendon and Brisbane lose, GC finishes 4th.
