I really hope N Murray doesn't play up forward. It is a waste of time, just go smaller.
Murray's a pack-crasher, which I like, well, except for the fact that some of his crashing is into teammates.
Murray forward might put Thilthorpe in Hospital, ffs.

Irrelevant.
Discussion was about this weeks game and I responded to a quote that suggested Toby is a good second ruck. He's not.

Now could he eventually be? Maybe. He has shown that he has something in his game worth persisting with, but he has to learn how to hold his ground in ruck and marking contests. Maybe if he had rucked more at SANFL level he would have this already.
Hes no worse a 2nd ruck than Maley, which is slightly disappointing TBH.

Our best 2nd ruck is the guy in #7 who we refuse to ruck.

Because he is injured.

he showed last game in the last qtr vs lions the absolute havoc he can cause. huge and well timed leap on him and, as you correctly say, if he can ensure its only oppo players in his way its a big advantage to us having him say take on 2-3 tall defenders in a marking contest and the ball spilling out to the rankines, racheles, peds (and hopefully baileys) of the world

i also believe playing n murray up forward AND dropping him last week could be a part of our strategy to keep butts. i would think we can pay butts as much as other contenders (bullies, pies etc) but he needs to believe he is likely a first team player and not always a default spare after keane and n murray. IF n murray can become the swingman we need (thats why i would personally be happy to also possibly chase brackets mc govern for a year or 2) then butts feeling confident he is first team may help our chances retaining him.

but then again, perhaps this is fantasy land stuff

I actually don't think Filthy is a good ruck - not in terms of hitouts anyway. He is however exceptional once the ball hits the ground or is in dispute. He has clean hands and is great at clearances.

He's no Luke Jackson, but he's better than our alternatives.

I do get why we arent rucking him, but its a big loss IMO

I don’t buy the whole Thilthorpe can’t ruck due to injury risk. Darcy went down in the forward line so I think it’s just a risk with big guys anywhere.

I think it’s more you want your best forward… well… in the forward line. Like you wouldn’t throw Jeremey Cameron in the ruck.

Given Thilthorpe has been pretty poor this season, I think he should play in the ruck when struggling to bring him into the game.

I did like that we used him at crucial moments against Poort.
Throwing him on ball or into ruck at key moments is a good option. Just can't be for too long as we then struggle up forward.

I think 80/20 split with MacAndrew would work.

Maybe have Dawson or Curtin up forward as focal point when RT Rucks.

All season?

Last couple of weeks he has looked hampered. His goal kicking accuracy has been down and team struggled with ball movement.

Had Maley ever genuinely rucked before he came to us? Seems like we just plonked him there because of his athleticism

Luke Jackson vs Riley Thrilthorp

I’m picking Thrilthorp every day of the week and I don’t believe that’s my cross bias either.

Thrilthorp is just a much better player with a larger ceiling

Really? I'm taking a 60 goal key forward all day long.

Exactly

I agree with you. I’m taking a forward who can kick 60 goals a season who can part time ruck, over a very good player who rucks but kicks less than 1 goal a game.

Thrilthorp ceiling is much higher than Jackson.
